Akon has been known to have many partners and children yet Tomeka has been his wife on record. Their daughter, Journey (age 17) has been cited in the divorce filing.

Tomeka filed for divorce in September 2025 in which she referred to irreconcilable differences between the couple. In the filing, she requested joint legal custody, physical custody of Journey and spousal support. She has also requested the court to block Akon from getting any spousal support from her.
