Charlie Kirk was allegedly killed by Tyler Robinson.
The fatal shooting of the conservative influencer at Utah Valley University on Wednesday left the nation stunned. The late founder of Turning Point USA was addressing students at one of his "Prove Me Wrong" campus debates when a gunshot ended his life. The suspect is 22-year-old Tyler Robinson. He was arrested late Thursday night after a two-day manhunt.
Authorities said that Robinson is a Utah resident. He was identified from surveillance photos. Notably, Robinson allegedly confessed to his father after being confronted about his involvement.
His father then worked with a family pastor and federal authorities, and got his son taken into custody. Utah Governor Spencer Cox later confirmed Tylor Robinson's arrest. He also mentioned that investigators currently believe he acted alone.
Piers Morgan took to his official X (formerly Twitter) to share Robinson's mugshot, captioning:
"Charlie Kirk's assassin Tyler Robinson, 22, killed him because he hated his opinions and thought he was a fascist. Yet ironically, HE was the fascist, killing someone to silence their opposing views. The woke left love to say 'speech is violent.' It's not, violence is."
Who is Tyler Robinson's mother?
Robinson's mother has been identified as Amber Denise Jones Robinson. According to her alleged Facebook profile and local reports, Amber works for Intermountain Support Coordination Services. It is an organization that helps people with disabilities access care and resources.
Her social media posts have also resurfaced since her son's arrest. In a 2020 Facebook post, Amber praised Tyler's academic achievements. She noted that he had maintained a 4.0 GPA and earned near-perfect ACT scores. Tyler was described as the oldest of three siblings. He has two younger brothers named Austin and Logan.
Moreover, Amber often shared family updates online. In 2021, she posted about a visit to Utah State University with her son, writing:
"It was great to get some one on one time with this boy. Plus Aggie ice cream! I did not know that was a thing, but it's great!"
Some posts about family trips, such as a visit to Alaska, were also seen on her account.
Tyler Robinson's father
Robinson's father's name is Matt Robinson. Reports claimed Matt was a 27-year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff's Department. However, local officials later clarified this was incorrect. It was initially mixed up with another person of the same name.
Matt Robinson runs a construction business in southern Utah. According to reports, he recognized his son in photos shared by the FBI and confronted him.
According to CBS News, Tyler Robinson confessed privately and told his father he did not want to surrender. Sources said he expressed thoughts of s*icide instead of turning himself in. Matt then contacted a family pastor.
Eventually, they persuaded Tyler to cooperate until U.S. Marshals arrived and detained him. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that Robinson was taken into custody late Thursday night. Governor Cox later thanked the family members for "doing the right thing." It is worth noting that Tyler Robinson's parents are registered Republican voters, according to reports.
