Belgian-Brazilian streamer and gamer Bwipo, whose real name is Gabriël Rau, reflected on his comments about women in gaming. For the uninitiated, the gamer was suspended by FlyQuest in September 2025 for his comments. One of his claims was that women should abstain from playing during menstruating.

At the time, the esports organization released a statement, saying:

“Recently, Bwipo made sexist comments that are antithetical to FlyQuest’s core values. Every day, we try to make the gaming space better and that includes helping anyone with a passion for competition reach the highest possible levels of play.”

The statement continued:

“As a result, we will be suspending Bwipo from play for the next series in the LTA playoffs and donating his event prize money to causes that support women in gaming.”

Rau addressed his comments while speaking to Armand Luque from Sheep Esports on October 14. He said he would like to apologize for misrepresenting the LTA. He further thanked FlyQuest for helping him to ensure that everything was fine with him personally. The gamer also noted:

“I feared for my career. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to play at Worlds at all. And the thing about being wrong and asking for forgiveness is it's not your place to decide what is a rightful punishment or not. The only thing you can do is lower your head and accept whatever the public whatever the authorities whatever anyone throws at you at that point.”

Bwipo said he must accept whatever was decided

Bwipo also told Armand Luque that when someone asks for forgiveness, they have to accept whatever the other person decides. He shared that it was a hard time for him because he didn’t even agree with what he had said earlier.

When he listened to his own words, he realized they didn’t make sense. He explained that it was tough to be judged for something he no longer believed in, but he knew he still had to take responsibility.

He said he learned an important lesson: that he couldn’t speak without thinking, because sometimes people say things while trying to figure out their thoughts, and that can cause problems.

Revisiting Bwipo’s statement that drew controversy

During the livestream in September 2025, Bwipo talked about living with a woman who was glued to League of Legends. He said he noticed that she got upset more easily during those times of the month and felt that female players might find it harder to compete during that time of the month. He also mentioned:

“I think there’s just not enough support for female pro players. Women’s anatomy and their monthly cycles are extremely different from males, and there is no proper support system for women to go through what they’re going through when it comes to competition in my opinion, at least.”

The streamer went on to say:

“I think a lot of people, even men, get tilted out of their f**king minds when they play League of Legends. When a woman is on the wrong part of the month, for playing competitively, you know what I mean? There is a time of the month where you should not be playing competitive games as a woman in my opinion.”

He added that maybe they should take it easy or spend more time reviewing their games then. Bwipo also said he wasn’t sure if he was completely right, but was speaking from what he had seen.
