ALLDAY PROJECT is a brand-new K-pop group that just made its debut. The group is getting a lot of attention because the group includes both boys and girls. That is not very common in K-pop, so fans were pretty excited. Their first few songs are already doing great on Korean music charts.
But things suddenly took a turn online. An Australian rapper named Allday saw the group’s name and got upset. He posted on Facebook saying the K-pop group is using a name that belongs to him. Now, he is threatening to take legal action against the company that launched the group, The Black Label.
The post spread quickly. Fans were confused and surprised. Some agreed with the rapper. Some didn’t. Now, people are asking: what’s really going on?
What exactly did the rapper Allday say about ALLDAY PROJECT?
Allday, whose real name is Tom Gaynor, has been releasing music under the name “Allday” for years. When he found out about the K-pop group called ALLDAY PROJECT, he took to Facebook to share how he felt. His post said:
"People keep asking me about this..... I have a trademark on the name Allday. Maybe I don't have 20 billion streams like that kpop shit which mostly sucks by the way. But I do exist and own the trademark to my name. Prepare for the greatest legal battle of all time."
That one post started a whole debate online. In the post, he made two things clear: he owns the trademark for the name Allday, and he is not happy with the K-pop group using a similar name.
He also said he’s planning to take legal action against The Black Label, which is the company behind ALLDAY PROJECT. The Black Label is a well-known K-pop agency that’s part of YG Entertainment, one of the biggest names in Korean music.
What have fans and the K-pop label said?
At the time of this article's publication, The Black Label has not commented on the matter. Fans, however, are not quiet. People on X and other platforms are sharing different opinions. Some fans say the rapper has a point. If he really does own the name, then the K-pop company should have checked before choosing “ALLDAY PROJECT.”
A user @FrozenInTime24 commented,
"Nobody knows any of them. So I'll be supporting the man. The guy was generous when he said 20B streams."
But other fans think the whole thing is being blown out of proportion. They say “Allday” and “ALLDAY PROJECT” are not the same. One is a person’s name and the other is a group's name. Plus, they point out that the rapper is in Australia, and the K-pop group is based in South Korea. The user @B3rryP1nk commented,
"It's allday project. Not just allday. Does that even count for a trademark "lawsuit??
Another user, @S010330, aired their sentiments stating,
"Well.. it won't be such a great battle.. but also, trademarks are territorial so I don't think it currently applies as an infringement. But they should change the name if they want to promote globally. Just so there's no legal issues. But believe me, that NO ONE will confuse them"
It’s not clear what will happen next. For now, fans are just watching and waiting.
