In a statement to People on Dec. 26, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's representative revealed:

Meredith Maines issued her own statement, expressing her gratitude to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

"After a year of inspiring work with Prince Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Archewell, I will be pursuing a new opportunity in 2026. I have the utmost gratitude and respect for the couple and the team, and the good they are doing in the world."

Meredith Maines was hired by the couple on Feb. 28 and officially began her position in March, managing the couple's business ventures and their overall public image.

Before becoming the CCO for the Sussexes, Meredith Maines worked at Google. She headed Hulu communications and was a talent manager for American Idol.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's director of communications steps down

Her departure comes a few months after Emily Robinson stepped down from her position as the director of communications, only four months after she took over the role.

Per a spokesperson from the Duke and Duchess's team in October, Robinson left on her own accord.

"Ms. Robinson oversaw project-based work for a very successful season of With Love, Meghan, and additional support for the production company. She did an excellent job and completed these projects with great success."

A source also praised Maines through Us Weekly, calling her the "best in class."

"Anyone who has worked with Meredith knows she's best in class — she's no nonsense, highly strategic and has done it all. They've accomplished a ton over the past year and it's time for what's next."

In 2024, Ashley Hansen, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's global press secretary and head of communications, also quit as she established her own communications firm.

Other members of the communications team who quit this year were Charlie Gipson and Kyle Boulia.

As of writing, Liam Maguire, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's UK and Europe director of communications, remains in his role. He largely oversees Duke's communications.

Meanwhile, amid the recent shakeup, a September 12 article from last year, regarding Meghan Markle being difficult to work for, resurfaced. The piece was shared on social media, where past staffers contradicted the assumptions and showered the couple with praises like "Best Bosses I have ever had" and "truly an honor."
