“She was loved by so many” says Jay Cohen as he opens up for the first time since Michelle Trachtenberg’s tragic death at 39

Michelle Trachtenberg passed away in her apartment in February 2025, leaving behind devastated fans and emotional colleagues. The 39-year-old’s boyfriend at the time of her death, Jay Cohen recently shared details of how he has been dealing with the loss on his private Instagram page.

Cohen, who works at a talent agency, expressed his gratitude to friends and loved ones for standing by him during the difficult times:

“I am so grateful to all of you who are in my life sharing our common joys, helping me with tragedies and healing from pain and grief,” he wrote in a July 10 post on his Instagram page, which is private. “I’m sure many of you know what I mean when I write that.”

E News reports that Cohen stated in the comments that he would share more details about his late girlfriend, adding:

"she was loved by many."

The couple were first linked together in 2020, although there are speculations that they had met earlier. Not much is known about the couple’s time together as they maintained a private relationship.

Cohen first went public about Michelle Trachtenberg being his girlfriend on Instagram in 2021 when he posted photographs with her on Fourth of July captioning it as follows:

“Fireworks are everyday with this one.”

Michelle Trachtenberg made her relationship with Cohen official in February 2023 when she posted a picture of herself and him on Instagram on Valentine's Day. The post featured Michelle Trachtenberg dressed in a floral embellished sweater, leaning towards Cohen who rocked a dark sweatshirt and grey scarf around his neck. The couple could be seen smiling in the photos. The actress simply captioned the photo:

"My #Valentines" and a heart emoji.

A year later, the Gossip Girl Alum posted a birthday tribute to Cohen in March 2024 using the couple’s Halloween photos. Michelle had dressed up as Jekyll, and Cohen was Hyde. The caption read:

“Happy birthday to the man who puts up with me.”

The couple continued to post small details about themselves online but never gave away too much. Cohen has produced movies like Bride Wars and Swimming With Sharks and has two children, Lili and Rachel.

Michelle Trachtenberg was discovered dead at her Midtown apartment on February 26, 2025.
