Slayyyter, whose real name is Catherine Grace Garner, expressed love for her LGBTQ+ fans after debuting her single CRANK at Grindr's Pleasure Ball in New York City. The event was held last month, and the majority of her fans who attended the ball were from the LGBTQ+ community. In an exclusive interview with People, Garner said:"I feel like that is the space where my music lives and thrives, and I feel grateful to always perform in those spaces."She also revealed to People what she actually planned to wear on stage but backed out last minute because of a migraine. Slayyyter said:"I was going to wear antlers, but they were giving me a migraine... So I was like, 'Okay, no antlers.' And then I was like, 'Honestly, that's better. You can get a better view of said phallic statue.' It all worked out."Slayyyter explains why the majority of her fans belong to the LGBTQ+ communitySlayyyter talked to People and shared her thoughts about why her music is widely enjoyed by the LGBTQ+ community. She said:"I think my music has landed in these spaces because I genuinely have loved and adored pop music since I was very young. I feel like a student of pop music and a champion of it in the same way that people in all queer spaces are."She also revealed that she had been surrounded by queer people ever since she was a teenager. Garner added:"And not to be the girl who's like, 'My friends were gay guys in high school' — super annoying, but they were."When she was younger, she told People that she often listened to Lady Gaga and MARINA, who are both celebrated LGBTQ+ icons. They are known for their powerful messages of self-expression and inclusivity. She further said about her music:"I never tried to have my music land here, but I feel so happy and grateful that it has just because I feel like queer spaces are the true appreciators of pop music."But she did clarify that when she started making music, she did not intentionally create it for the LGBTQ+ community, but she is glad that they are a part of her fan base. Slayyyter had this to say about artists who pander to a specific group:"It's not something I ever pandered to or shot for or tried to do... I actually kind of take issue with some artists that shoot for that fanbase too much. That feels a little weird to me."As for her songs in her upcoming album, this is what Slayyyter had to say:"Each song is definitely different from each other, but I feel like they all have a bit of cohesion and they all represent the different sonic vibes on this album... I feel like 'BEAT UP CHANEL$' and 'CRANK' are both a little more aggressive, but 'CANNIBALISM!' still has this punk, Cramps, psychobilly vibe."
