On September 17, Erika Kirk shared an Instagram post remembering Charlie Kirk with a photo of him. The caption read:
"You loved witnessing excellence. It’s why you loved sports so much. You loved watching the best of the best perform at the level of greatness God intended for them."
In the post, Erika Kirk recalled their early days of dating, when they would go to the basketball court just to play.
"It was just us, the sound of sneakers squeaking and jump shots. We bonded over how Jordan was the GOAT and you told me about your basketball days in high school and I told you about my basketball days in college. Just two athletes escaping the demands of the world for a minute."
Erika Kirk said he always wore a red bracelet that read “work harder, be better,” which Charlie lived by. However, Charlie later gave the bracelet to a student who asked him about it at a campus event. Erika Kirk added that while she doesn’t know who the student is, she’s sure they’ll be working hard, inspired by him and the example he set.
Talking about the photo she added on the post, she revealed that it was one of the last photos of Charlie before he was shot at a university in Utah on September 10. She continued:
"To me, this is your “Jordan” photo. Permanently etched in time, held in my heart, as I admire your greatness. Forever. I pray you’ve had the most amazing week in Heaven"
Fans of Erika and Charlie also shared their condolences and paid their respects to Charlie in the comments.
