Demi Lovato's upcoming album, It's Not That Deep, is scheduled to be released on October 24. The singer has already released two songs from the album titled Here All Night and Fast.
While Here All Night was more of a song about trying to get over someone but struggling to do so, with a video showing her dancing in her apartment, the Fast music video made nods to a variety of memes.
In the recent Paper Magazine interview, when asked about the past memes about her she referenced in the Fast music video, the singer said:
"I think what's been fun for me is I recently joined TikTok full time. I was always lurking. I'd go on it once in a while, but I never invested time into making videos. Once I got back online, I started seeing the memes."
She continued:
"An incredible, powerful way to take the power back is to own the memes. Because then, if I'm laughing, nobody can laugh at me. I'm laughing at me."
Demi Lovato admitted that a few of the memes were absurd, but she said this era is about reclaiming her power. In another statement, she said:
"Just owning my music, owning where I'm at, owning the position that my life is in today, which is happy, fun, and carefree. It’s just about taking the power back."
Demi Lovato chooses memes over comments
In the Paper Magazine interview, Lovato revealed that she doesn’t trouble herself by reading the comments people leave on her posts and reels. According to the singer, the comments either inflate her ego or make her doubt herself.
Talking about the same, she said:
"I don't really want to do that from either point, but it's difficult because I know that reading the comments is crucial to staying in contact with your fans. I don’t go searching for it out of a place where I need validation or anything like that."
Instead, the singer said that she prefers memes over comments, as they help her feel more connected with her fans. The 'Fast' music video included memes of her singing to ghosts, the "Hi Fatty!" meme, which Lovato said during a live video, and POOT, the fictional twin sister of Demi Lovato.
A few other memes featured in the music video were 'I Like Mugs,' which she said when asked about her favorite dish, and Disney Knees. As per the singer, the memes don’t bother her anymore, as she has learned to laugh at what people and her fans joke about.
Demi Lovato's upcoming album, It’s Not That Deep, has eleven songs in total. Fans are waiting to see what Demi will bring to the table this time with her ninth studio album.
