'The Glory' star Jung Sung-il finalizes divorce after 9 years of marriage, promises to remain devoted father and actor

Jung Sung-il, famous for The Glory and Unmasked, has decided to part ways with his wife after nine years of marriage. The announcement was made on October 14 via his agency, XYZ Studio:

"After long and careful consideration with his spouse, Jung Sung-il has decided to conclude his marital life. As this decision was made through a mutual agreement without fault on either side, we request refraining from distorted or speculative reporting."

It continued:

"Although their legal relationship has been settled, they support each other’s paths and are committed to co-parenting their child with utmost sincerity. Jung will continue to do his best to showcase his growth as an actor, so we ask for your continued interest and support."

The actor has largely kept his personal life away from the spotlight, and little is known about his non-celebrity wife and family.


How did Jung Sung-il meet his wife?

The couple first met through mutual friends in their early twenties. Following her move to the U.S. for academic pursuits, the couple stayed connected through regular communication. The forty-five-year-old actor married his wife in 2016. The couple also welcomed a son the next year.

Sharing the story of their relationship, Jung Sung-il said in an interview, as reported by The Chosun Daily, that after she moved to the U.S.:

"We then separated for seven to eight years but stayed in touch frequently because my wife was close to my mother. When my mother fell ill and needed surgery in Seoul, my wife accompanied her to the hospital, and we reconnected. We married three months later."

Jung Sung-il's upcoming projects

While Jung Sung-il was already a respected figure in the Korean entertainment industry, his popularity soared following his roles in The Glory and The Glory II, alongside stars Song Hye Kyo and Lee Do Hyun.

Talking about the show, he said in an interview reported by SBS Star:

"Watching their recent projects, I couldn't help but think, 'The Glory was really something special.' I believe the reason the writer, actors, and crew have all done so well is that everyone nailed their roles. And they're proving that now."

Following his success in The Glory, Jung Sung-il went on to star in Begins Youth and Unmasked. His upcoming projects include Made in Korea, scheduled for release next year, and Guardians, which does not yet have a confirmed release date. In both of these projects, he will be playing the role of the main lead.

In addition to TV series, he also appeared in two movies this year, titled Wall to Wall and Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy. He is also playing the main lead in the upcoming movie Murderer Report, scheduled to release this year.
