Rapper Tory Lanez was recently stabbed in prison multiple times. Now, the man who allegedly carried out the attack, Santino Casio, is speaking out. Casio is serving a life sentence and says he acted in self-defense.
Casio claims he thought Tory was going to harm him. He says there was a rumor going around in prison that Tory had placed a bounty on his head. Casio says this rumor made him feel unsafe.
Tory Lanez was attacked earlier this month at California Correctional Institution at Tehachapi. He was stabbed 14 times but survived. He was taken to a hospital and then returned to prison.
Why did Santino Casio attack Tory Lanez?
As reported by TMZ on May 13, 2025, Santino Casio says he heard from other inmates that Tory Lanez wanted him dead. He told TMZ in a prison phone call,
“There was word on the yard that Tory had a bounty on me.” Casio said this made him very afraid.
He says one day he saw Tory and noticed a lump in his pocket. Casio believed it was a weapon. He said:
“I thought he had something in there, maybe a shank,” he said. “So I acted before he could.”
Casio says he stabbed Tory 14 times. Seven wounds were in the back, four in the torso, and three in the head.
However, Casio says, “I wasn’t trying to kill him, just protect myself.”

What was their relationship before the stabbing?

As reported by TMZ on May 13, 2025, before the attack, Casio and Tory were on good terms. They lived in cells close to each other.
Casio said, “We were cool. We talked sometimes. Nothing bad between us.”
Casio says he never expected this kind of situation to happen between them.
“I didn’t see this coming. But once I heard about the bounty, I had to be ready,” he told Rolling Stone.
Despite the attack, Casio says he did not come out of the fight without injury.
"I got stabbed too. In my leg,” he said.
This is why he still believes Tory had a weapon, even though one was never found.
Santino Casio admits to stabbing Tory Lanez. But he says he did it because he was scared for his life. Tory’s team says there is no truth to Casio’s story and that Tory is in danger while in prison.
The situation is serious. It raises questions about safety in prison and how rumors can lead to violence. Tory’s legal team continues to fight for his release, saying his time behind bars is unfair.
For now, Lanez remains in prison. His supporters hope for a change soon, while officials continue to investigate the stabbing.
