Trump accuses Springsteen, other celebrities of illegal contributions to Kamala Harris: What we know

The US President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Monday, May 19, 2025, and accused high-profile celebrities like Bruce Springsteen, Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey, and Bono of making illegal contributions to Kamala Harris during her 2024 presidential campaign.

Trump claimed that these celebrities were paid under the guise of entertainment to endorse Kamala, which he alleges are unlawful campaign contributions.

Just last week, on May 14, 2025, during a concert in Manchester, Bruce Springsteen took a shot at Trump and called his administration corrupt and incompetent, and urged the audience to stand against authoritarianism.

Trump accuses Springsteen, Oprah, and other celebrities of illegally backing Harris's campaign

Donald Trump took to Truth Social to accuse celebrities of endorsing Kamala Harris in 2024 during her presidential campaign. This is what he said:

''HOW MUCH DID KAMALA HARRIS PAY BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN FOR HIS POOR PERFORMANCE DURING HER CAMPAIGN FOR PRESIDENT? WHY DID HE ACCEPT THAT MONEY IF HE IS SUCH A FAN OF HERS? ISN’T THAT A MAJOR AND ILLEGAL CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTION? WHAT ABOUT BEYONCÉ? …AND HOW MUCH WENT TO OPRAH, AND BONO???''

He then said that he will call for a major investigation into the Kamala Harris campaign. He then claimed that Kamala's team secretly paid these celebrities for endorsing her publicly, but pretended as though the payments were for events or performances. He said that it was done to make Kamala's rallies popular. Trump also accused the celebrities of using the broken system for their own gain and called their actions dishonest and unpatriotic.

Trump also called out Beyoncé and alleged that she received $11 million for her appearance at Kamala's rally. This is what he said:

''According to news reports, Beyoncé was paid $11,000,000 to walk onto a stage, quickly ENDORSE KAMALA, and walk off to loud booing for never having performed, NOT EVEN ONE SONG!.''

He continued:

''Remember, the Democrats and Kamala illegally paid her millions of Dollars for doing nothing other than giving Kamala a full throated ENDORSEMENT. THIS IS AN ILLEGAL ELECTION SCAM AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL! IT IS AN ILLEGAL CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTION! BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, OPRAH, BONO AND, PERHAPS, MANY OTHERS, HAVE A LOT OF EXPLAINING TO DO!!!''

As per ABC News, Kamala Harris's campaign paid companies owned by Oprah, Bruce Springsteen, and Beyoncé for helping with the event during and after the 2024 presidential elections. Oprah and Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, who runs the company, had said that the money paid by Kamala's campaign was to cover the cost of organizing and running those events, and not for endorsements.

As of now, there is no official investigation into Trump’s allegations, nor have any other inquiries been launched regarding the matter.
