Online streamer Hasan Piker is speaking up on the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Kirk was shot at the University of Utah on September 10. Piker and Kirk were scheduled to join in for a debate on the Politics of Youth on September 25 at Dartmouth Political Union.

Talking about Kirk's assassination and the death threats he had received in his journey, Hasan Piker told Politico Magazine in an interview:

"That is the one fear that’s always in the back of your mind when you engage in any sort of political advocacy when you do these events. As a recipient of millions of death threats at this point over the years, watching that unfold in real time was devastating."

Talking about his first reaction to the news, he added:

"It was pure horror. I had a couple people say [while I was streaming] that there was a guy on Twitter being like, “Charlie Kirk just got shot in the neck at the event I’m at.” And I was like, “There’s no way.”"

Piker added that he searched online for footage since it was a public event with many cameras, after which he found clips confirming the shooting.

"charlie kirk was a victim of the policies that those who mourn him have actively pushed for and continue to do so. the only solution is more reasonable gun control."

Hasan Piker also revealed in the Politico interview that he plans to return once things calm down a bit. Piker said he has never supported violence, adding that he was even supposed to sit next to Kirk at the upcoming public event, and despite threats and fear, he won’t let it dictate his life.

Hasan Piker, in another statement, said:

"But also, I received death threats even before this, all the time, nonstop. Like, I said it’s almost seen as a part of the industry."
