Jillian Lauren pleads not guilty, details explored
Lauren, who is married to the player of the band Weezer, Scott Shriner, pleaded not guilty on Tuesday, May 13, to two felony charges. For the unversed, these charges stem from an incident that took place on April 9, 2025.
As per CNN, although Lauren was booked on suspicion of attempted murder by the police, the LA County district attorney did not file the attempted murder charge against her.
On April 9, the police officers were looking for three suspects in a hit-and-run case that took place on the 134 Freeway. As per the 911 calls, the suspects tried to hide around the Eagle Rock area.
When the police were looking for the suspects, that's when they encountered Lauren, who was in her backyard with a handgun. The home surveillance footage shows Lauren pointing at a fence where the police were. The police said that they repeatedly told Lauren to keep her weapon down, but she didn't.
Lauren then allegedly shot once with her handgun, and in response, the officers had to fire back, striking her shoulder. Lauren then ran back to her house, where she stayed for almost an hour before surrendering and getting hospitalized for her injury.
She was taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol. There is a possibility that Lauren was not able to hear the police officers when they were asking her to lower her weapon, as there was a police helicopter hovering over the scene, as per the Los Angeles Times.
In the video released by the police department, a neighbour told a 911 dispatcher that Lauren was confused about what was happening. The neighbor in the video was saying:
"There were three men, and one of them shot her, and the cops are looking for him right now … They have their guns out.”
As per Consequence, Lauren believed that she was hitting the hit and run suspects and not the police officers. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 18, 2025.
