Robert Sylvester Kelly, famous by the name R. Kelly, was hospitalized on June 12 after he collapsed in his prison cell. The collapse reportedly happened due to an overdose of medication while he was in solitary confinement at a federal prison in North Carolina.
Kelly was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment, where doctors discovered blood clots in his lungs and legs. The condition was serious and required immediate surgery to prevent further health complications.
As per Kelly’s lawyers, after he was moved to solitary confinement, he was purposely given too much medication, which led to serious health problems.
According to AP News, in a court filing submitted on Tuesday, Beau Brindley wrote:
"These people did overdose him. They did leave him with blood clots in his lungs and remove him from a hospital that sought to do surgery to remove them. And they did it within days of his exposure of a plan to kill him set forth by Bureau of Prisons officials."
R. Kelly denied life-saving surgery, lawyer Beau Brindley claims
Unfortunately, the surgery on Kelly couldn’t be performed as he was removed from the hospital too soon.
According to R. Kelly's lawyer, Beau Brindley, reported by Mint,
"Within an hour, officers with guns came into his hospital room and removed Mr. Kelly. He was taken from the hospital against his will and against the directives of the doctors. He was denied the surgery he needs to clear blood clots in his lungs that threaten his life. This happened. This will be confirmed by hospital records. It is undeniable."
Last week, Brindley filed a motion requesting that Kelly be released from prison and placed under home confinement due to serious safety concerns. He claimed there was a plot to kill Kelly, allegedly involving prison officials and members of the Aryan Brotherhood gang.
As per Kelly’s lawyers, they have a statement from an Aryan Brotherhood leader to support their claims.

As per the Associated Press, government attorneys dismissed the allegations by saying,
"Kelly has never taken responsibility for his years of sexually abusing children, and he probably never will. Undeterred, Kelly now asks this Court to release him from incarceration indefinitely under the guise of a fanciful conspiracy."
Kelly’s life is still in danger due to untreated blood clots. He is scheduled to appear for a hearing at Chicago’s federal court on Friday.
