Bo Rinehart, the former member of the rock band NEEDTOBREATHE, has recently accused his brother, Bear Rinehart, who is a singer, guitarist, and the lead singer of the same band, of sexual assault.
Bo posted about the alleged assault on his Instagram handle on Thursday, June 12, 2025. In his post, he wrote:
''I have been sexually, physically, and emotionally abused by my brother.''
In the same post, he also mentioned that he is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. He also mentioned being allegedly assaulted by a camp counselor and his youth pastor, too, in his post. Bo used to be a part of the Needtobreathe band, where he used to play guitar, banjo, and mandolin from 2011 until his departure in 2020.
More about what Bo Rinehart said about his brother
Bo Rinehart and his brother Bear both worked for the band Needtobreathe until Bo left the band in 2020. The band's 2014 song Multiplied was nominated for the Grammys, and their 2015 track Brother had charted on the Top 100 and had also reached No. 1 on the Hot Christian Songs chart.
Back in 2023, Bo Rinehart was interviewed by People Magazine, where he mentioned that he was a victim of sexual abuse. He had also said that his song Doing the Best I Can was about the abuse he faced when he was young. This is what he had said in the interview:
"I'm going to have to face it and hit it head-on. That's what the song is about, really coming to terms with it and knowing you can either blame other people for your struggles, be resentful or you can look inward and say. This is something that I deserve grace and forgiveness for, and allow myself that.''
During the interview, he also mentioned how the repressed memories can resurface during therapy. This is what he said:
"At some point in our lives, we get to this stage — and it's generally with survivors of childhood sexual abuse, it's in their late 30s or early 40s — where it starts to surface whether you want it to or not. You'll start to see how your life's kind of breaking down.''
It should be noted that during the interview, Bo Rinehart did not mention anything about the abuser. His recent post on social media, where he confessed to the assault, ends with him extending his support to others who are in similar situations, and he says:
''I belive in God who always finds a way. Don't give up and don't lose hope.''
At the time of writing, Bear Rineheart has not responded to the allegations.
