American actor Jonathan Joss, best known for voicing John Redcorn in the animated series King of the Hill, has been confirmed dead by the San Antonio police. According to TMZ, Jonathan Joss was shot to death by his neighbor, who has been identified as 56-year-old Sigfredo Alvarez-Cega, after a heated argument.
It was reported that the actor died on Sunday night, June 1, 2025, after his neighbor pulled a gun during an argument and shot the actor several times before attempting to flee in a vehicle. According to the San Antonio police department, they received a call about the tragic incident and a detailed description of the vehicle.
The suspect was caught about a block away from the murder scene. Unfortunately, paramedics who arrived at the scene to provide medical assistance couldn't save Jonathan, and the actor was confirmed dead at the age of 59.
Jonathan Joss’ career explored
Jonathan Joss was born on December 22, 1965, in San Antonio, Texas. He attended McCollum High School and Texas State University but dropped out. He later graduated from Our Lady of the Lake University with a degree in theatre and speech.
Jonathan joined the animated series King of the Hill in its second season after replacing the former actor Victor Aaron, who passed away after a fatal car accident. Jonathan voiced the character John Redcorn until the thirteenth season of the show.
A few hours before his passing, Jonathan Joss was promoting the remake of the show. In a Facebook post he shared on May 25, 2025, the actor wrote:
“We’re bringing stories, laughs, music, and that unmistakable Redcorn energy to the heart of Texas for one unforgettable night. Whether you're a longtime fan or just curious what the spirit of Redcorn is all about — this is for you.”
The new King of the Hill will air on Hulu on August 4.

In addition to his role in King of the Hill, Jonathan Joss has also appeared in several other films, including 8 Seconds, Texas, Almost Heroes, Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World, Impala, Christmas in the Clouds, Johnson Family Vacation, True Gift, The Magnificent Seven, Grow Up, and The Forever Purge.
According to his IMDB profile page, Joss, who was married to Laurie, was also a producer. He co-produced Abduction of the Fourth Kind. In addition to his acting and producing career, Joss has an impressive resume of game features, including Santa Fe Mysteries: The Elk Moon Murder, Trauma Team, Red Dead Redemption, Days Gone, Wasteland 3, and Cyberpunk 2077.
Just a few months before his tragic passing, Jonathan Joss announced on January 23, 2025, the loss of his San Antonio home and two dogs in a fire.
