Jung Sung-il once recounted how his son asked about the meaning of an autograph, following a request from his teacher. The Glory star revealed the details in an interview with a fashion magazine, where he said:

"One day, my seven-year-old son came home from kindergarten and asked me what an ‘autograph’ was because his teachers asked him to bring them my autograph. I was glad that I could do something special for my young boy, who doesn’t even know what autographs are."

The incident happened after the release of the TV series The Glory, whose first part premiered in 2022, followed by the second part the following year. In the series, Jung Sung-il played the role of Ha Do Young. Following its release, he gained major popularity worldwide for his performance.

Public details about his son and wife remain private, as the actor prefers to keep his family life out of the spotlight. On October 14, he also announced his divorce from his non-celebrity wife after nine years of marriage.

The divorce statement came via his agency:

"Jung Sung-il has made the decision to end his marital life after careful consideration with his spouse over a long period. As this decision was made through a mutual and amicable agreement without any fault on either side, we kindly request refraining from distorted or speculative reporting."

The statement confirmed that the couple has settled their legal relationship but will continue co-parenting their child, while Jung Sung-il focuses on his acting career.

His upcoming projects include the TV series Made in Korea and Guardians, and a movie titled Murderer Report.

Talking about the offers and opportunities he got after the hit of The Glory, he said in the reported interview with DAZED Korea, as per Korea Boo:

"I received a lot of offers, but I’m taking my time to think over the choices. I know that these next steps that I take are important to not just me, but to those who work with me. I’m constantly talking to my management company about these things. We agree that it’s okay to take things slow as long as we make choices that make me better as an actor."

The actor has said in the past that he focuses on the script as a whole, feeling that the story and surroundings shape a character more than their traits. Talking about his own character in The Glory, the actor revealed that while every role is special, he prefers smaller, defined roles over bigger but unclear ones.
