The television personality Erika Jayne and her ex-husband, Tom Girardi, have been garnering massive attention recently. On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, Tom, also known as Thomas Vincent Girardi, was sentenced to federal prison for seven years and three months for embezzling at least $15 million from his clients, as per NBC News.
Girardi is convicted on four counts of wire fraud. Although Erika is not facing any criminal charges, she is widely associated with Girardi's opulent lifestyle, which prosecutors say was funded by the funds stolen from Girardi's vulnerable clients.
Girardi was 60 years old when he married the 28-year-old Erika in 2000. In November 2020, Erika filed for a divorce.

On his 86th birthday on June 3, Tom Girardi, who is suffering from Alzheimer's disease, was sentenced to over seven years in federal prison. In 2024, Tom, the disbarred attorney who used to run the Girardi Keese law firm, was found guilty of stealing millions of settlement funds from his clients for over a decade.
In a news release, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California made statements regarding the conviction of Girardi. Here is what they said:
''Girardi sent lulling communications to the defrauded clients that, among other things, falsely denied that the settlement proceeds had been paid and falsely claimed that Girardi Keese could not pay the settlement proceeds to clients until certain purported requirements had been met.''
The statement continues:
''These bogus requirements included addressing supposed tax obligations, settling bankruptcy claims, obtaining supposedly necessary authorizations from judges, and satisfying other debts. This self-proclaimed 'champion of justice' was nothing more than a thief and a liar who conned his vulnerable clients out of millions of dollars.''
The U.S. District Judge Josephine L. Staton has ordered Tom to pay $2.3 million in restitution to his victims and a fine of $35,000, as per Page Six. The funds that Girardi was supposed to give to his clients, he used them for his lavish lifestyle, which included owning private jets, real estate, and huge investments in Erika Jayne's entertainment company, EJ Global, according to the Daily Beast.
Among the victims whose funds Girardi stole were families of victims from the 2018 Lion Air Flight 610 crash in Indonesia, and an individual who suffered burns in a 2010 gas line explosion in San Bruno, California.
Girardi is currently at a memory care unit and is expected to surrender for incarceration on July 17, 2025. Girardi was previously married to Karen Weitzul in 1964 and later divorced in 1983. He then married Kathy Risner in 1993, who had filed for divorce in 1998, and then married Erika.
