The New York City Democratic mayoral primary elections reached the final phase on June 24, 2025, when Zohran Mamdani beat Andrew Cuomo to the finish line.
Many celebrities and political figures showered their support for him during the elections. Some posted pictures and videos on their social media handles like Instagram and TikTok.
Among celebrities who supported Mamdani was Cynthia Nixon, who posted a video on Instagram in which she describes her excitement about voting.
As per The Guardian, Mamdani led the first-round count with about 43.5%, while Andrew Cuomo had around 36.4%.

Many celebrities showed their support for the politician on social media. Among them was Ramy Youssef. He posted a picture with Mamdani and captioned it saying 'vote for us.'
The model and actress, Emily Ratajowski, posted a video with Mamdani on her Instagram in which she urged people to vote for him. The caption of the post read:
''Today is election day in New York and we have the opportunity to send a message to billionaires and Super PACs that the power belongs to the PEOPLE. @zohrankmamdani is what the future of the Democratic party looks like. The world is watching.''
The director of the Netflix series, When They See Us, Ava DuVernay, also showed her support by posting a video in which she is seen chatting with Mamadani. The Politician actor Ben Platt and The Summer I Turned Pretty actress Lola Tung had posted on their Instagram Stories that they had voted for Mamdani.
Ashley Liao, who starred in the 2023 film, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, posted on X (formerly Twitter) expressing her support. She posted pictures of herself with the caption:
''my first canvass and it’s for @ZohranKMamdani tomorrow is election day, New York!.''
The New Zealand singer and songwriter, Lorde, also posted an Instagram story showing her support for Mamdani with a note that said:
''The one candidate with a crystal clear vision of the city.''
She also added that:
''He was the one who looked beyond the wealthiest New Yorkers to offer sensible and caring paths forward on climate, transport, housing security, and much more.''
The Primetime Emmy Award nominee, actor, podcaster, and comedian, Bowen Yang, also showed his support by posting a video on Instagram thanking everyone who was phonebanking for the candidate.
These celebrities used their platforms to support Mamdani and encourage New Yorkers to cast their vote.
