More details on Dawn Florio and Lil Tjay’s gun cases
Lil Tjay, known for his popular tracks like “F.N” and “Calling My Phone", was hit with two separate gun charges in 2023. The first case was in January 2023 when the police arrested Lil Tjay after a traffic stop in the Bronx.
The police pulled over the rapper– their reason was his car was tinted and didn't have a front license plate– and had his vehicle searched. After a thorough search, the police came up with four loaded guns. Lil Tjay was slammed with a charge of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
His second case happened in May 2023 when Tjay turned himself in for another gun-related charge. This case was related to a 2022 shooting case where he, as the victim, was shot seven times during an attempted robbery. During the incident, guns were found in his car, leading to his second gun case.

However, his attorney, Dawn Florio, wasn't anxious about both charges. For the first gun charge, she argued that the police conducted an illegal search as her client's vehicle was parked legally at the time. Dawn also argued that her client was just a passenger in the vehicle, and no evidence identifies him as the owner of the guns.
For the second gun case, Dawn Florio argued that the case wasn't a fresh one; instead, it was a lingering issue from a case where her client wasn't breaking the law but was the victim left bleeding. She also stated that no evidence linked him to the guns in the vehicle.
Dawn Florio based her argument on the illegality of the police search, their shaky procedures, and the weak links in the prosecution’s argument. Dawn’s argument was a game-changer, and she won the case, keeping her client, Lil Tjay, out of jail and leaving his record clean.
