Elon Musk has openly called out Apple for not listing his two companies, X (formerly Twitter) and Grok, an AI assistant designed by xAI, in their must-have list. The tweet came soon after Grok took the number 2 position in the productivity section and the number 5 position overall in the US App Store Rankings.
Calling out Apple in his tweet, posted on August 11, Musk wrote:
"Hey @Apple App Store, why do you refuse to put either 𝕏 or Grok in your “Must Have” section when 𝕏 is the #1 news app in the world and Grok is #5 among all apps? Are you playing politics? What gives? Inquiring minds want to know."
In the same thread, he also mentioned ChatGPT and wrote,
"And why is ChatGPT literally in every list where you have editorial control?"
Musk was one of the co-founders behind OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, but later stepped away due to disagreements over its direction. So far, Apple hasn’t replied to Musk’s comments or explained why the apps were left out.
Elon Musk warns Apple of possible legal action
Elon Musk’s tweets didn’t stop there. The X CEO went on to call out Apple and even warned of possible legal action against the company. Giving a warning to Apple, he wrote:
"Apple is behaving in a manner that makes it impossible for any AI company besides OpenAI to reach #1 in the App Store, which is an unequivocal antitrust violation. xAI will take immediate legal action."
After the callout tweet mentioning ChatGPT, a user asked Grok what the AI assistant thought about it, and Grok shared a similar opinion. The AI assistant called the App Store listings biased, saying Apple favors established AI like ChatGPT over new challengers, and warned that such choices 'stifle' competition.
The topic quickly became a talking point across the platform, with many X users weighing in and sharing their opinions. A famous news and commentary account, @WallStreetApes, also added their own take through a tweet that read:
"Apple also choose ChatGPT to integrate into their devices, of course they’re going to be insanely bias and push ChatGPT over Grok or any competitor. We should have the choice of who we want our iPhone to come integrated with. We should be able to choose Grok over ChatGPT"
Musk was quick to repost the post with the hundred points emoji, showing his agreement.
As per Elon Musk’s latest post, he is now trying to push Grok to the top by sharing a post from a user asking people to give the app a five-star rating on the App Store.
