More details on Mindy Kaling’s acting hiatus
In a publication by The Hollywood Reporter on June 6, 2025, Mindy Kaling provided detailed explanations for her absence from the big screen. The co-creator of "Running Point" discussed why she had not taken on a major acting role in recent years, despite her success in creating popular television series. She revealed that her superstitious nature led her to believe that since the successful shows she made did not feature her, she would wait a little longer.
“Never Have I Ever, a show literally about an Indian American family in Southern California, and if I wasn’t on that — what’s wrong with me? I think there is a part of me that feels a little superstitious. I’m like, these seem to have gone well, and I’m not in them, so maybe I’ll wait.”
Mindy Kaling has expressed her desire to return to our screens soon, stating that she misses acting. While she did not specify when we can expect to see her in a major role, she mentioned that she might be back in a couple of years.

“I miss it, and I would like to write or co-create a show for me to act in soon,” Mindy told The Hollywood Reporter.
“It is unbelievably fun, and it’s so efficient. I would love to do that again…that’s the thing that maybe in the next couple years when I launch a couple of other things that are earlier in the pipeline, that would be something that would be fun to do again,” she added, talking about her time on The Mindy Project, a show she created and starred in.
