Call of Duty 2025, expected to be known as Black Ops 7, is rumored to charge players to access limited-time modes (LTMs). For players, LTMs in Call of Duty have served as fun and free temporary game modes that come with their own rewards. The company has kept most Call of Duty Limited-Time Modes (LTMs) free to play to date. However, the new rumor has left fans worried.
An X user by the name @TheGhostOfHope, who is also a Call of Duty insider and leaker, uploaded a tweet on May 4 that stated,
"Activision/Treyarch are currently planning to make changes to the Battle Pass with the release of Black Ops 7 (2025). Black Ops 7 will reportedly have more seasonal LTM’s and some of them would be considered “higher value” with unique rewards and different game mechanics/modes BUT the only way to play the LTMs will be to have the battle pass unlike how it's currently free for everyone."
The tweet further continues,
"They are planning on taking the higher tier skins, loot, and crossover operators for LTMs and making them only accessible to Battle Pass owners instead of having the "Premium Event Track" we currently get during Reloaded updates."
If the rumors are true, Call of Duty 2025 might make players pay for a Battle Pass to play special limited-time modes. As of now, neither Treyarch nor Activision has confirmed the news or given any statement on offering limited-time modes with a paid Battle Pass for Call of Duty 2025.
Black Ops 7 is rumored to be set in 2035
The last sequence of the series, titled Black Ops 6, released in 2024, was set in the 1990s and focused on the Gulf War.
While the official setting of Black Ops 7 is not confirmed yet, a Reddit user who goes by the name Bigbyy has claimed Black Ops 7 will follow the 2035 setting. As per the user, the new Black Ops 7 is a sequel to Black Ops II and will include characters like Woods and Mason, and an open-world map. The user claims to be part of a study group at Activision.
Dexerto also posted on X, giving more details about the setting by adding,
"Call of Duty Black Ops 7 is coming in 2025 according to leaks It will be a direct sequel to Black Ops 2 set in 2035 featuring a futuristic Japanese setting"
At this point, neither Activision nor Treyarch has confirmed the above details about Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Until there’s an official announcement, these reports remain unverified and should be considered speculation.
