Joey Swoll is well-known for calling out upsetting content made by people; he has spoken against bullying and insensitive content. Recently, the popular fitness influencer called out an Instagram model who used a filter that makes you appear like you have Down syndrome.
As explained by Moyo Clinic, Down Syndrome refers to a genetic condition that causes an extra full or partial copy of chromosome 21, leading to unique physical features and developmental changes.
Some popular social media apps, such as Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok, provide filters allowing users to change their appearance. One such filter changes one's physical appearance to that of a person with Down syndrome, and using it often leads to backlash from netizens.
Joey Swoll calls out an Instagram influencer for using a Down syndrome filter
Recently, Joey Swoll shared a video where a woman walks across a train station using the Down Syndrome filter.
“This is disgusting and evil. What’s worse is that there are sick people that actually subscribe!” Joey Swoll wrote in the caption.
“Here is another disgusting example of somebody using an AI filter to pretend they have Down Syndrome in order to sell more subscriptions to their OF account. This video had over seventy million views and over nine hundred thousand likes,” he said in the video.
“First off, I can't believe a filter like this even exists, but secondly, if you are somebody that supports this or you go and subscribe to them, you are sick in the head! And you're part of the problem. I will say I am happy to see a lot of big creators are speaking out against this, and we've gotten a lot of these accounts taken down, especially the ones that I've posted,” he added.
“So thank you to all of you, and after doing some homework I found that these are the actual women that are doing this or their management teams in order to push traffic to their OF account, as well as there are people that are stealing others' content using the filter and trying to hustle and scam people regardless, if you are somebody that is doing this or somebody that supports this, shame on you! You need to do better. I will call out every single account that does this until this evil is off the internet,” Joey Swoll concluded the video.
This isn't the first time Joey Swoll has called out an account for using the filter. On April 30, 2025, he shared a video mentioning another account and the following day, the video was removed from the Instagram account, and her OF account was banned.
Netizens have commended Joey Swoll's actions, with many in his comments section thanking him for being so positive and helping others.
