Regardless of genre—be it thriller or romance—these K-dramas are rarely without the humor that makes them so enjoyable. As odd as the stories might be, they still manage to maintain the signature charm and emotional pull that keep viewers hooked. After all, that’s what they’re meant to do.
Here’s a list of 10 of the weirdest K-drama plots that will make you wonder how they ever made it to air.

10 weirdest K-drama plots
10) I Picked Up a Celebrity on the Street

When it comes to weirdest K-drama plots, I Picked Up a Celebrity on the Street is hard to ignore. In this series, Kim Ga-eun’s Lee Yeon-seo accidentally hits and kidnaps a K-pop idol, Kang Joon-hyeok (Sung Hoon), mistaking him for her rude section chief, Mr. Nam. Afraid he’ll report her to the police, she keeps him locked in her apartment.
As one tries to keep the other hidden, and the other looks for ways to escape, the two begin to fall for each other. This results in one of the most hilariously bizarre K-drama plots out there.
9) My Holo Love

If you thought there weren’t enough strange topics for K-dramas to tackle, My Holo Love will prove otherwise. In this sci-fi romance, Ko Sung-hee’s So-yeon falls for an AI named Holo, who looks exactly like its creator, Go Nan-do (Yoon Hyun-min).
What follows is an unusual love triangle, as the inventor finds himself falling for So-yeon too. The result is a deeply weird yet surprisingly emotional K-drama with one of the most unconventional plots on this list.
8) W

Another one of the weirdest K-drama plots appears in the series W. It revolves around a cardiothoracic surgeon, Oh Yeon-joo, who gets sucked into the world of a webtoon named W, created by her father. There, she meets Kang Cheol (Lee Jong-suk), the protagonist of the webtoon.
The Korean series centers on the romance between Yeon-joo and Kang Cheol, unfolding across two different worlds: the real world and the fictional one her father designed. As bizarre as the premise sounds, the show still manages to carry the charming and compelling narrative style that defines K-dramas.
7) Oh My Venus

Oh My Venus, starring Shin Min-a of Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha fame, is another show with one of the weirdest K-drama plots. The story follows Min-a’s Kang Joo-eun, who blackmails So Ji-sub’s John Kim into helping her lose weight after discovering his real identity.
While the plot is undeniably odd, the performances by Min-a and Ji-sub make this rom-com worth watching. At times, you might find yourself questioning how silly it seems—but you’ll still be drawn in by the K-drama’s light-hearted and uplifting storyline.
6) I’m Not a Robot

I’m Not a Robot arguably features one of the weirdest K-drama plots on this list. In the series, Chae Soo-bin’s Jo Ji-ah agrees to impersonate a humanoid robot called AG3 in exchange for a large sum of money. She’s sent to Kim Min-kyu, a man allergic to human touch, who gradually falls in love with Ji-ah—believing she’s a robot.
The plot thickens when Min-kyu later learns Ji-ah is actually human, and he subsequently develops a life-threatening allergy. This condition is then exploited by his family friends in an attempt to oust him from his own company. Despite the heavy themes, the story ends on a happy note, but the premise definitely earns it a spot among the weirdest K-dramas.
5) Blade Man

Blade Man might resemble Edward Scissorhands at first glance, but it has a totally different and bizarre storyline. This melodrama, starring Lee Dong-wook as Joo Hong-bin, features a man who develops a supernatural ability. Knives start sprouting from his body whenever he gets angry.
Initially unaware of this strange condition, Hong-bin is only monitored by his secretary, who knows the truth. The concept is undeniably weird, especially since the drama offers no clear explanation for the origin of his supernatural ability. However, like many rom-com K-dramas, the humour still manages to stand out.
4) My Absolute Boyfriend

My Absolute Boyfriend is another K-drama with one of the weirdest plots. Unlike I’m Not a Robot, this series features an actual humanoid who develops human emotions. The humanoid, known as Zero Nine, was created as the perfect boyfriend. He ends up falling in love with his human owner, Um Da-da, forming a love triangle with her and her ex-boyfriend, Wang-joon.
While the concept is definitely strange, the drama’s slow pacing didn’t do it any favors, making it more of a one-time watch—especially with its sad ending.
3) Psychopath Diary

Psychopath Diary follows the story of three individuals caught up in a series of hilarious misunderstandings. One of the weirdest K-drama plots, the show revolves around Yook Dong-sik, who suffers from amnesia after a car accident. He mistakenly believes he’s a psychopathic killer after finding a diary that details several murders.
The twist? The diary actually belongs to Seo In-woo, the real psychopath, who becomes increasingly nervous after losing it. Despite its dark premise, the K-drama leans into its comedic timing, turning an otherwise creepy thriller into an unexpectedly funny watch.
2) A Girl Who Sees Smells

The Korean series A Girl Who Sees Smells might have introduced one of the weirdest K-drama plots. It makes the protagonist see scents—visible to her through shapes and colors. Choi Eun-seol (Shin Se-kyung) goes through a lot, witnessing her parents’ death and getting hit by a car while trying to escape the killer.
She wakes up from a coma, only to discover she has lost her memory but gained a strange power that lets her see scents. While the storyline might seem weak or overly fantastical, the chemistry between the lead characters manages to hold it together. Thanks to the unique premise, it ends up being one of the weirdest yet oddly enjoyable K-dramas.
1) Behind Your Touch

If you think a girl who sees scents is weird, this K-drama might make you think twice. Behind Your Touch revolves around a vet, Bong Ye-bun, who has the psychometric ability to see into any human or animal’s past—by touching their rear end. Weird, right?
In the series, Ye-bun’s powers come in handy for detective Moon Jang-yeol, who involves her in solving criminal cases. While the series boasts an excellent cast, including EXO’s Suho, the plot still stands out as one of the weirdest K-drama concepts ever aired.
