3 reasons why you should definitely add Our Movie to your K-drama must-watch list

1) Blending the elements of melodrama and slice-of-life

A drama with an illness as its main theme might not be liked by everyone. But Our Movie is more than that. Yeo-been’s Da-eum is not your typical patient. She is someone who can bring a smile to everyone’s faces around her, even Je-ha, who has spent his life around more darkness than light.

The series deals with the emotions humans have around death as Je-ha is struggling with the deaths of his parents and the situations surrounding their deaths, while Da-eum handles her situation of having limited time due to her illness but still tries to do everything and live her life to the fullest. The K-drama focuses on these two different approaches to death and how they shape the lives of the characters, making it also a slice-of-life drama.

2) The beautiful cinematography of Our Movie mirrors the filmmaking shown in the series

While the story tends to be emotional at times, it's the capturing of those emotions that makes it one of the best series. While concentrating on the many issues surrounding death, it also captures how life still goes on with its steady and picturesque cinematography. For instance, showing two people talking about their lives near a department store or a beautiful shot of birds flying away while people go through with their lives—these instances bring back the essence of life to the Korean series.

Since Our Movie is about making a movie, numerous beautiful shots make the drama aesthetically pleasing and mirror Da-eum’s life of experiencing everything in life with a limited time.

3) The stellar cast and their performance

Apart from the raw and realistic narrative that Our Movie depicts, it's also the performances of the lead actors that make it more heartfelt. Namkoong Min plays Je-ha, the uptight film director who can’t help but smile and behave out of character when Da-eum is around. Min doesn’t have to be overly dramatic to let you see his emotions; it's in the subtleties of his performance that make his character authentic and honest. Min is also popular for his other works, such as One Dollar Lawyer and My Dearest.

Then there is Jeon Yeo-been, who plays the character of Da-eum with all her playfulness but has a shocking and heartbreaking truth that makes her character more precious. Popular for playing Cha-young in Vincenzo, Yeo-been lets her witness the range of acting through her role in Our Movie, which is a lot different than her character in Vincenzo, apart from the confidence she portrays in both of these characters.

Yeo-been and Namkoong Min are one of the biggest reasons for the series’s success with their undeniable chemistry and acting.
