Netflix series FUBAR was canceled officially after two thrilling seasons with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Based on a father-daughter CIA pair dealing with spying and family rumors, the series entertained audiences with its fast-paced story and suspenseful comedy. Before the viewers could all get used to the gruff-around-the-edges nature of Luke and Emma Brunner's love affair, it got canceled.
The cancellation leaves a few plot threads unresolved. From cliffhangers that aren't tied up to character arcs left dangling, FUBAR has more questions than answers by the time it ends. And as luck would have it, unless another network decides to revive it or a spin-off somehow materializes out of thin air, fans are not going to be getting closure on these threads anytime in the near future.
Here are the five biggest unanswered questions about FUBAR that are now stuck in limbo forever.
1. What went down for Tina, and where were her actual loyalties?
Tina (Aparna Brielle) was the cause of more than enough suspicion throughout Season 2 for her actual loyalty. Even though she was introduced into the CIA team and befriended Aldon and others, she had connections to the enigmatic "Grey Division" and in the last episodes did such things that left the spectator questioning if she had another motive other than what was being shown on the surface.
Having no Season 3, her saga hangs in the balance. Was she a double agent from the beginning? Or was she stuck between competing interests? We’ll never know.
2. How would the CIA handle the fallout of their exposure?
The final episodes of FUBAR Season 2 hinted at serious consequences for the agency after several operations went sideways, some with major public visibility. There was an increasing narrative focus on accountability, internal leaks, and ethical conflict.
Without a third season, we’ll never see if the CIA tightened its protocols or suffered greater fallout from its covert actions being dragged into the light.
3. What was the future of Emma and Aldon's relationship?
Emma and Aldon's "will-they-won't-they" was finally seeming to be headed in a possible direction in Season 2, only to be taken away. Their tension, driven by professional restraint and emotional depth, had been one of the series' most hotly anticipated subplots.
Now that the series is over, fans won't have any idea if they'd ever follow through on a full-blown relationship or continue dancing around it indefinitely.
4. Would Boro stage a comeback?
While Boro (Gabriel Luna) died in Season 1, the show continued to play with the notion that his power could still be out there. They hinted that he could have survived or that someone from his group could have come back.
FUBAR enjoyed dropping these breadcrumbs, but Season 2 couldn't reveal new bad guys without closing the door on Boro entirely. Without a sequel, the mystery ends with him, or does it?
5. What happened to Luke and his plans to retire?
Luke Brunner's perpetual wish to someday retire from the CIA was a recurring joke and an actual storyline. Just as he attempted to remove his boots, something would draw him in again. Season 2 concluded in greater uncertainty than ever whether he would ever actually be able to walk away.
Would Luke ever have found peace outside of the game? The cancellation denies the audience closure on his personal development or the eventual ramifications of his decisions on his family.
Netflix's cancellation of FUBAR after two seasons left in its wake a loose end situation flapping about in the wind. Although some of the narratives were wrapped up halfway, most of the central storylines were left hanging in limbo without resolution.
And for those playing the long game as fans, these five questions now constitute the loose ends on a show that ended somewhat too abruptly.
