Veteran star Arnold Schwarzenegger is stepping away as CIA operative Luke Brunner as Netflix canceled its action spy series FUBAR after two seasons.
The show, which debuted to impressive ratings in May 2023, was renewed for a second season, which premiered in June 2025. However, the sophomore season failed to recreate the magic of the debut season, which is likely why Netflix axed the show after two seasons.
In addition to FUBAR, the platform also canceled Noah Centineo's star-studded action series The Recruit after two seasons and two freshman series, namely The Residence and Pulse.
In addition to Schwarzenegger, the show's ensemble cast also included Oscar-nominated Monica Barbaro as Emma Brunner, along with Travis Van Winkle, Barbara Eve Harris, Fortune Feimster, Aparna Brielle, and Fabiana Udenio.
FUBAR follows Luke, a CIA operative, who learns the truth about his daughter being a fellow CIA agent. The duo then reunites for a deadly mission, challenging their father-daughter relationship.

Why did Netflix cancel FUBAR after 2 seasons?
Much to the disappointment of its enthusiastic fans, Netflix canceled FUBAR after two seasons on Friday. While the streaming platform has not confirmed a definitive reason for this decision, the streaming numbers for the sophomore season are likely a big reason.
Marking veteran star Arnold Schwarzenegger's debut on the small screen, Season 1 landed at the top of Nielsen’s streaming charts during its premiere week in 2023. The debut season accumulated 1.53 billion minutes of viewing, which drastically dropped to 412 million viewing minutes for the sophomore season during its premiere week in 2025. This 73% decline in streaming minutes likely sealed the show's fate on Netflix.
In addition, Season 1 opened to 11M views on Netflix, gaining the top spot on the platform's Top 10 charts, which dropped to 2.2M in the sophomore season. FUBAR Season 2 barely made it to Netflix's list of Top 10 for English-language series in its debut week, peaking at No. 7 in Week 2 before dropping out for good.
This continued decline in both Nielsen ratings and Netflix streaming numbers proves that the sophomore season could not maintain the momentum of the debut season, which was partly successful due to Arnold Schwarzenegger's global star power.
FUBAR Season 2 increased the stakes for Luke's mission but failed to improve streaming numbers
The show was hailed as an impressive action spy thriller series on its debut, with Arnold Schwarzenegger playing a cheeky CIA operative who learns about his daughter's identity as a fellow CIA operative, leading to a father-daughter partnership for a deadly mission.
Season 2 saw the additional casting of actors Carrie-Anne Moss and Guy Burnet. While Anne Moss played Greta Nelson, a former East German spy and Luke's old flame, Burnet played Theodore Chips, a former MI6 agent with a secret identity.
Compared to Season 1, Luke and Emma were involved in a much higher-stakes mission, which involved saving the world from the threat of a crazy terrorist, who was hell-bent on repopulating the planet. The finale was action-packed with a twist reveal about the secret identity of the terrorist, but it failed to capture the viewers and critics.
FUBAR was also appreciated for its cheeky humor and amazing twists, which failed to pull in more viewers and numbers in its sophomore season, leading to its recent cancellation.
You can stream both seasons of the Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring action series on Netflix.
