9-1-1: Nashville — What creators said and what to expect from the show

The buzz surrounding 9-1-1: Nashville has brought with it questions about whether the spin will cross over with the original series. Executive producer Tim Minear hinted in a September 2025 interview with Entertainment Weekly, saying:

“A crossover between the original series and Nashville could be on the table.”

Ryan Murphy, Tim Minear, and Rashad Raisani are behind the series, with Raisani also serving as showrunner. The show is produced by Chris O’Donnell, Brad Buecker, Brad Falchuk and Angela Bassett, who has previously lent her creative voice to the franchise. This veteran creative team is guiding the new chapter with a vision that integrates the DNA of the original while accentuating the distinctiveness of Nashville.

What is 9-1-1: Nashville about?

Captain Don Hart, a family man and the series anchor, is at the centre of 9-1-1: Nashville and commander of the city’s busiest firehouse, whose personal secrets complicate matters. He will also have much of the family-driven narrative lean on his relationship with his son Ryan, who is also a firefighter.

LeAnn Rimes’ Dixie Bennings acts as a tie to the city’s music scene, and several other characters represent the wide range of people who come and go in Nashville’s frenetic world.

9-1-1: Nashville is produced by 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television. It is expected to deliver gripping rescues and emotional storytelling that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats. With its October premiere, viewers have yet another reminder of what makes 9-1-1 the most resilient/dynamic procedural drama currently airing: an ability to legitimately mix thrills with humanity.
