Jax and Lewis' relationship is finally heading in the right direction in Hulu's Reasonable Doubt Season 3. The American legal drama series premiered its third season with a two-episode feature on September 18. The latest season opened in the aftermath of Toni's exhausting lawsuit against Jax (Emayatzy Corinealdi) and Lewis (McKinley Freeman).

After the harrowing events of the Season 2 finale and making peace with Lewis' infidelity, Jax is finally moving ahead in both her personal and professional life. The new season brings fresh opportunities for the couple to work on their differences and mend their broken marriage through couples therapy.

While a shocking proposal again threatened to break Jax and Lewis' marriage in Reasonable Doubt Season 3 Episode 2, they eventually found a way to resolve it.

In an interview with Variety, actor McKinley Freeman reassured his fans that Season 3 will further explore Lewis' evolving relationship with Jax:

''He [Lewis] has a chance to also grow and figure it out along the way. That’s the journey for Lewis. For him and Jax, it’s about how they can make this work.''

More on this in our story.

Lewis finds unexpected closure in Reasonable Doubt Season 3

Reasonable Doubt Season 3 kicked off with a changed approach for Jax and Lewis, who are finally starting to heal from their broken marriage. After Lewis' infedility with Toni, things were finally starting to look ahead. Jax & Lewis had even started couples therapy.

However, all that progress was threatened when Toni threatened them with a lawsuit in the Reasonable Doubt Season 2 finale.

In the new season, Toni finally reveals that she will drop the lawsuit if Lewis spends one night with her. Since Jax is still processing her emotions over her husband's betrayal, she was against the idea, even if it meant an end to their harrowing lawsuit. However, Lewis was open to the idea because he knew that Toni was seeking her closure from their baby's loss.

This conflict again threatened Jax and Lewis' marriage in Reasonable Doubt Season 3, but the couple eventually managed to work their way out of it. Jax agreed that Toni could have her night of closure with her husband.

While Lewis and Toni spent the majority of their night breaking down the nursery, opening gifts, and making sense of their grief, it was an actual moment of closure for Lewis as well. Between Toni's lawsuit and his marriage to Jax, he forgot that he also experienced a significant loss. That came running back to him in Reasonable Doubt Season 3 Episode 2, when he held his baby's onesie. That moment of closure was explained by Freeman as:

''We’re talking about loss. There are some things you lose that you can get back, but there are some things you lose that you’ll only get back in memories...The opportunity to do that for Lewis is important.''

Lewis' closure will benefit his marriage with Jax in Reasonable Doubt Season 3

While Reasonable Doubt Season 3 has premiered with just two episodes for now, they have set the tone for the new season. As confirmed by Lewis' closure in Episode 2, Season 3 will explore the couple's relationship.

In addition to Lewis' closure with Toni and their baby, it was impressive how the couple handled their first conflict of the season. While Jax was opposed to Lewis spending a night at Toni's, he knew that it was important. The couple instead worked through their differences and created some ground rules for this night. Lewis reassured Jax that he would give her hourly updates over text and call from Toni's house, which was enough for her. While he did not make good on his offer when he actually reached Toni's house, that was a part of his process.

Lastly, Freeman confirmed that Reasonable Doubt Season 3 will continue to evolve Jax and Lewis' relationship:

''Lewis’ ability to hold himself accountable for the things that he says that he wants is going to continue to pop up...They’ve come this far. Let’s keep moving forward.''

Reasonable Doubt Season 3 will drop weekly episodes every Thursday on Hulu.
