Aimee Lou Wood delivered a stellar performance in The White Lotus Season 3 as Chelsea.
Despite the show featuring an impressive ensemble with some acclaimed stars, the actress was able to shine on her own with her earnest portrayal.
Chelsea eventually became a fan favorite for her pure-hearted personality and her unconditional love for her boyfriend, Rick. Part of the reason Aimee was able to stand out in the show was that she effectively connected with her character.
After The White Lotus Season 3 premiered, the actress sat for an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in March 2025, where she revealed she was instantly able to relate to Chelsea after reading the script, as she is also an astrology buff in real life.
Additionally, she is from Manchester, just like her character in the show. Aimee Lou Wood said:
“I think a good word for her [Chelsea] is unfazed, which is funny because I’m severely fazed. I have a Scorpio moon. But playing her felt like a little bit of a holiday, even when her radical optimism tips into the delulu — I think you need to be a bit delulu these days just to stay alive.”
Aimee Lou Wood once talked about how she felt connected to Chelsea in The White Lotus Season 3
Chelsea has been described as delusional by some The White Lotus Season 3 fans, as she is too pure to understand what’s going on with her boyfriend. She continues to trust him and wants to be with him despite all his shortcomings, which eventually leads to a tragedy.
She comes from a working-class family in Manchester, who does not know the functioning of the elite, and is considered a misfit among the other rich guests. In real life, Aimee Lou Wood also comes from a humble background and was raised in Manchester, which was another reason why she could see herself in Chelsea.
However, when she finally arrived in Thailand to begin the shoot for the show, she felt a little nervous to work with veteran actors like Parker Posey, Carrie Coon, Leslie Bibb, and Walton Goggins. Talking about the experience, Aimee revealed in her interview:
“These people live in Hollywood. I live in my little flat in South East London, and I’m so British in my sensibility that I wasn’t sure how to handle being around so many people who are so front-footed and confident.”
However, as time progressed, she got comfortable on the sets and eventually performed a lifetime in The White Lotus Season 3. Aimee further opened up about the time when she learned that she had booked the role in the series. She disclosed she was at a pub with her friends when she got to know that she had been cast as Chelsea:
“I started screaming, so it was very obvious that something had happened. And then, of course, I told the waiter, so the bar put on the bloody theme song for everyone to dance to.”
Apart from the HBO series, Aimee is also known for starring as Aimee Gibbs in Sex Education. The rest of her television credits include the shows Daddy Issues, Alice & Jack, and Toxic Town. She has also appeared in the films The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, Living, and Seize Them!
The White Lotus Seasons 1 to 3 are streaming on HBO Max.
