It has only been a few days since We Were Liars premiered on Prime Video, but series creators already have plans for the future of the show. Based on E. Lockhart’s novel of the same name, the psychological thriller series revolves around Cadence Sinclair Eastman, the daughter of an elite family, and her group of friends.
As Cadence does not remember a tragedy that happened the previous summer, she starts digging out the truth about her family, which leads to surprising revelations. The show has already become a success, and viewers now await updates on a potential second season.
In an interview with Collider, series creators Julie Plec and Carina Adly Mackenzie have revealed that they have already had conversations about the storyline of We Were Liars Season 2, which would again focus on Cadence and her family. Plec said:
“We have a lot of paths we can go down in future seasons while continuing to watch this family, and specifically Cadence, rebuild their souls, so to speak, and continue to fight the good and/or bad fight in present-day Beechwood Island.”

Prime Video has not yet officially announced We Were Liars Season 2. However, series creators Julie Plec and Carina Adly Mackenzie seem hopeful of the show’s continuation. Plec said that since E. Lockhart has already published a prequel novel as well, it could form the premise of the second season:
“And the prequel that Emily Lockhart wrote and published a couple of years back, thankfully, right as we were starting to write We Were Liars, does a beautiful job of telling the story of what good and bad trouble the Sinclair sisters got up to when they were the same age as the Liars were in Season 1.”
Plec added that there is still a lot left to be explored about Beechwood’s past and the history of the Sinclair family. She hopes that We Were Liars Season 1 generates good viewership so that they get an opportunity to create a second installment:
“We also have many, many, many skeletons of the past that we can unearth by going back and seeing what Beechwood was like before, too. We have big plans. We need big viewers, and we will get in there and bring you great new stories as soon as possible.”
Carina Adly Mackenzie, meanwhile, added that there are multiple Easter eggs in the first season that call for a rewatch:
“I really hope that when people finish the show that they have the urge to start it over from the beginning and watch and see the little tricks that we played and the things that they missed. There are Easter eggs in there, for sure.”
We Were Liars premiered on Prime Video on June 18, 2025, and has so far earned positive reviews from the audience and critics for its intriguing storyline, and various twists and turns.
