Netflix reveals a new clip from the latest animated series, Splinter Cell: Deathwatch. It offers a deeper look at Sam Fisher's bleak world as he fights against two mercenaries who are out to get him.

Splinter Cell: Deathwatch is an espionage series based on Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, Ubisoft's video game franchise. Derek Colstad is the head writer and executive producer on this project that follows a once-feared mercenary returning to his criminal roots. So, it's a theme he has already explored through his work on the John Wick film franchise and Nobody.

In an interview with IGN, Colstad accepted the parallels between the show and his past work. Speaking about this angry-old-man theme in his new project, he said,

"[I] had the flexibility to go where I wanted to go with (Sam). And it's been done before in Old Mad Logan, but in many respects, this is my Unforgiven. This is the ‘one last job’ from the old '70s thrillers, and it was a joy, man.”

Let's see what the new clip reveals about this show.

The new clip from Splinter Cell: Deathwatch shows Sam Fisher in the middle of an intense action scene. It shows him hiding from some outside forces. Suddenly, two masked and armed mercenaries walk inside to kill him, but before they can take a shot, he stabs one with a knife, and gets in a white-knuckle fight with the other one.

Things quickly heat up as the stranger gets hold of the knife and injures Sam. Within moments, Sam picks it back up and stabs this stranger to death. Although barely a one-and-a-half-minute scene, it builds up momentum that seems closer to Derek Colstad's earlier work on similarly brutal action thrillers that can keep you on the edge of your seat.

Speaking about the show, IGN has also revealed the episode titles from its first season. Here's the list shared by the outlet,

  • Up From the Grave
  • Dinner First, Talk Later
  • Welcome to the 4th Echelon
  • Scars of Bagram
  • Simple as That
  • The Man is The Mission
  • Chaos Theory: Part One
  • Chaos Theory: Part Two

In Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, Liev Schreiber takes over Sam's role from Michael Ironside, who has previously lent his voice to the character. Apart from Schreiber, the voice cast also includes Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Zinnia McKenna, Janet Varney as Anna "Grim" Grímsdóttir, and Joel Oulette as Thunder.

Since the show's a video game adaptation, Colstad understands the fan expectations from the project. He addressed them during a conversation with IGN, saying:

“Even though we have elements of that game referenced there, it's hopefully small enough and the changes therein minute enough [that fans won’t be upset]."

He added,

"But the other thing you have to look at with an adaptation, especially when it's the first time in this medium, you have to rip the spine out of the source material,” he continued. “Keep the brain and the heart, entertain the soul, and do your best to actually build it into something that works.”

The first season of Splinter Cell: Deathwatch will debut on Netflix on October 14, 2025.
