Ahead of the release of Outlander: Blood of My Blood, the cast, including both the fresh faces and the OG stars, lit up the L.A. premiere at DGA. Among them were two popular faces of the franchise, Graham McTavish and Sam Heughan. For Graham McTavish, who plays Dougal MacKenzie in Outlander, it was a full-circle moment. Sliding down memory lane, he told Variety,

"It is a strange out-of-body experience. It’s been 11 years since we did the first premiere in San Diego, and I remember that so well. They all come into this very fresh and new. They’ve never experienced anything like it before. It was the same for us. It’s like a mirror to see them going through the same process.”

Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser in Outlander, added that he has no idea what lies ahead in the prequel series. Heughan congratulated the team, praised them, and shared his excitement about their growing cast.

"I’m happy to see Diana [Gabaldon, author of the “Outlander” book series] here and all the fans embracing this new cast. They’re such a sweet bunch. They’re a cool ensemble.”

Developed by Matthew B. Roberts, this historical drama is a prequel to the long-running popular show Outlander. The original series delves into the mesmerizing love story of Claire, a former military nurse, and Jamie Fraser, a Highland warrior.

This prequel will take the viewers back to the 18th century, where it will explore the passionate saga of both Claire and Jamie’s parents. In an interview with TV Insider, EP Matthew B. Roberts shared how they developed the Outlander: Blood of My Blood storyline. He said,

"The idea came from the Outlander books. There’s a lovely thread about Ellen and Brian… about how they elope and they get married and move to Lallybroch and they have kids, one of them being Jamie.”

Set years before Claire and Jamie’s epic romance, Outlander: Blood of My Blood follows the lives of their parents. It features Jamie’s parents—Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie (portrayed by Jamie Roy and Harriet Slater)—and Claire’s parents—Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp (played by Hermione Cornfield and Jeremy Irvine).

The show dives into youthful passion, fierce loyalty, and the struggle of growing up in tumultuous times. Here’s what the cast of Outlander: Blood of My Blood revealed during the L.A. premiere.

Seamus McLean Ross, who plays Clum MacKenzie, and Sam Retford, who plays Dougal MacKenzie, shared that their roles are a mix of both violence and passion. In this season, they will come head-to-head in a battle of succession for the MacKenzie clan. Expect brutal clashes, betrayals, and classic struggles for power and position.

Ross further shared their characters’ dynamics with Variety. He said,

"Family dynamics, Love. Becoming a man, especially for our two characters at the formative years of 17 and 18 years old. Those are the years that everyone experiences and are so relatable.”

Meanwhile, Jamie Roy teased details about some OG Outlander characters—Murtagh Fraser, the protective confidante; Dougal MacKenzie, war chief; and Colum, too. The viewers will have a detailed outlook on their younger days and the circumstances that moulded them into what they are in Outlander.

"Murtagh is a completely different character to the one that we know and love, played by Duncan [Lacroix] in the original. People are going to see things like a younger Murtagh, Dougal, Colum, and all these characters whom they really love and see how they got to where they are. They have crazy journeys.”

While Conor MacNeill, who will play Ned Gowan, has teased some Easter eggs for Claire’s parents, Harriet Slater had a different clue for longtime fans. She asked them to take a close look at Murtagh’s boar tusk bracelet and suggested looking for pearls in it.
