Starz is expanding Diana Gabaldon's time-traveling book universe with Outlander: Blood of My Blood, the official prequel series to 2014's critically acclaimed and beloved series Outlander.
While Outlander was based on a series of fantasy romance books by Gabaldon, the spin-off series will follow original storylines with new and returning (young versions) characters from the parent series.
The flagship series followed Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), an English woman who accidentally time-travels to 1743 Scotland and falls in love with James Fraser (Sam Heughan), a Scottish Highlander. The show will return with its final and eighth season in early 2026.
While Outlander will soon bid us goodbye, Claire and Jamie have passed the baton to their parents, who will lead the prequel series. Outlander: Blood of My Blood will follow Jamie and Claire's parents' love stories in two different time periods.
Here's everything to know about Outlander: Blood of My Blood.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood plot: What is the prequel series about?
Outlander: Blood of My Blood will follow two sets of love stories, one of Jamie's parents in 18th-century Scotland and the other of Claire's parents during WWI. While fans were speculating whether the prequel show would contain the time-traveling element from the parent series, a recent trailer confirmed it.
In the books, Claire's parents were revealed to have died in a car crash when she was very young. However, the prequel series suggests that they were time travelers who were likely transported to another century and were presumed dead.
On the other hand, Jamie's parents are star-crossed lovers who will fight against all odds to unite. Their love story in the Scottish Highlands will be highly reminiscent of Jamie and Claire's story in the initial seasons of Outlander.
Two recently released clips from Blood of My Blood at SDCC 2025 featured Jamie's parents meeting in secret on a bridge, while Claire's parents enjoy a car ride through the country. The show promises two epic and fantastical tales of love, highly reminiscent of the parent series.
