At the beginning of Abbott Elementary Season 5 Episode 5, Barbara asks her music club about their Halloween plans. She is shocked to learn that the children are planning to create a nuisance by throwing eggs at people’s homes or ringing and ditching as they think they are too old to trick or treat.

In order to get them to do something productive, Barbara comes up with the idea of taking them camping. Meanwhile, the rest of the teachers are having a hard time as they are completely drained of energy. Someone needs tons of coffee, while other falls asleep the moment they put their head on the desk. Managing the school and the kids has certainly taken a toll on them.

So when Barbara announces that she is taking the older kids from the school for camping, everyone backs out. However, Melissa agrees to the activity and convinces everyone to join as she thinks Barb can not last in the wild for more than an hour. Thus, everyone decides to quickly go camping in Halloween costumes and then go home and sleep.

Abbott Elementary Season 5 Episode 5 recap: An adventurous and memorable camp night

Melissa, Janine, Gregory, and Jacob reach the campsite, hoping to escape the place soon. But to their surprise, Barb has everything figured out. From a shovel to a portable loo, she has brought everything that would allow her to enjoy her time without any inconvenience.

The rest of the gang still tries their best to convince Barb that it is not a good idea to spend the night in the open. But then Ava also shows up at the scene, dressed up as Darth Ma, and tries to help set up the campfire.

Meanwhile, Jacob comes up with a horror story about a squonk, which scares the students. Right on cue, Mr. Johnson enters the camp dressed as Denzel Washington from Gladiator II. The kids think that he is the squonk ghost, and some of them run away to the jungle in fear.

The teachers then follow them to bring them back. While Ava aces the task with the help of her lightsaber, Gregory and Janine get lost in the wild. To add to their troubles, they left their phones at the camp.

As they move through the forest, they get some much-needed alone time, where Janine tells Gregory how she wants to have her own club at the school. She even considers establishing a fashion club.

Meanwhile, the teachers are worried about them at the camp, and Jacob and Barb decide to search for them. While Barb reaches them and reveals that the campsite is just 30 yards away, Jacob gets lost and has to spend the night in the jungle.

An officer then arrives at the campsite and orders everyone to leave. When Barb shows him the permit she had acquired, it turns out to be taken from a fake website. Nevertheless, the officer lets them stay at the place for the night when Barb allows him to use her luxurious portable toilet.

The next morning, everyone feels fresh on waking up. It turns out that all they needed was a night in nature to get their energy back. Hence, everyone has a happy ending in Abbott Elementary Season 5 Episode 5, except poor Jacob, who returns from the jungle with a swollen face.
