Abbott Elementary Season 5 Episode 6 marked yet another hilarious ride for the teachers and students of the titular school. Aptly titled No Phones, the episode chronicles what happens at the school when the staff and the kids are forced to live without their mobile phones for a day.

While the students seem to be acing the challenge and learning new things, the adults have a hard time dealing with their routine tasks in the absence of gadgets. From being unable to pay their rent to not getting their medical reports, the teachers find it hard to get through the day.

Though the school almost loses the challenge, the episode gets a happy ending as a pizza party is planned for everyone. Here is all that happened in Abbott Elementary Season 5 Episode 6.

Abbott Elementary Season 5 Episode 6 recap: The ‘P.H.O.N.E.S.’ challenge

Abbott Elementary Season 5 Episode 6 begins with a hilarious confusion as Charlie arrives at Ava’s office, stating that he was sent by his teacher for using a slang that starts with N. While Ava fears the worst, it eventually comes out that Charlie had just called his teacher a ‘nerd.’

School district representative Emily then arrives at school and announces the P.H.O.N.E.S. challenge, aka 'Phones Harm One's Natural Environment in Schools'. Observing that the students and teachers are spending a lot of their time on gadgets, the district came up with the idea of organizing a competition, where the school that lasts a whole day without phones wins a pizza party.

Realizing that her archenemy, Crystal’s, school is also participating in the challenge, Ava tells everyone to pull their socks up. The teachers and students then have to submit their phones in a box, which sends a signal to the school district as soon as someone opens it and takes out their mobile.

To everyone’s surprise, the students are enjoying their time without cellphones. Someone finishes two days of homework at once, while another makes a painting. On the other hand, the teachers are having a hard time as they are all in dire need of their phones.

Janine needs to pay her rent before 4 PM, while Gregory needs updates about his car, which is under repair at a shop. Melissa awaits her medical reports as she has sharp pain in her abdomen, but she is more concerned about her fantasy sports team. Barbara, on the other hand, needs to wish her ‘frenemy’ Sister Sloss a happy birthday.

Meanwhile, Jacob gets restless as he is not able to use social media when the Supreme Court passes an important judgment. At the same time, Ava tries to use a burner phone, but is not able to charge it. After pretending to handle the pressure well, the teachers give up and all reach the library, where the box containing their phones is kept.

Just when they think about letting go of the challenge and taking their phones out, Courtney arrives at the scene and convinces them to organize a pizza and movie day if the teachers want to lose the P.H.O.N.E.S. challenge. The staff agrees, and everyone finally gets their phone back, only to realize that they had missed some important updates.

Barbara gets to know that she is about to become a grandmother, while Melissa learns that she will need to get her gallbladder removed. In the end, Emily returns and announces that no school was able to complete the challenge, and Abbott Elementary was the one that lasted the longest.

Hence, they get a pizza party as a reward, but Courtney reminds everyone that the teachers will need to organize not just a party, but a whole pizza day. Thus, Abbott Elementary Season 5 Episode 6 ends on a happy note for the students.
