Chicago P.D. Season 12 wrapped up by featurng the downfall of Deputy Chief Charlie Reid, a corrupt figure who had been manipulating events behind the scenes. Reid's actions included the murder of a drug dealer who had been paying him protection money, and things began to spiral out of control from there.
The Intelligence Unit was starting to pursue Reid for his actions when Renny Otero, the son of the murdered drug dealer, made his pursuit of the deputy chief public. He executed Reid in broad daylight as he was entering a courthouse right before a disciplinary hearing for the Intel Unit.
Amid the chaos, Chicago P.D. Season 12 concluded with the wedding of Kim Burgess and Adam Ruzek, a moment fans have been waiting for since the start. The ceremony took place in a small church because the couple wanted it to feel personal.
Their daughter, Makayla, was also involved, and Ruzek's father, Bob was part of the celebrations. Even though the couple didn't want an extravagant ceremony, they definitely deserved better than what was featured during the final moments of the season.
Fans had waited for them to tie the knots, and when they finally did, it was too short and simple. The finale could have given more glimpses into the ceremony as Burgess and Ruzek are two most loved characters of Chicago P.D.

Burgess and Ruzek deserved more in the Chicago P.D. Season 12 finale
From the very first episode, fans of Chicago P.D. have been invested in the rollercoaster ride that is Kim Burgess and Adam Ruzek's relationship. Their long and complicated journey, which has included multiple engagements, devastating losses, and co-parenting Makayla created a backdrop for a tear-jerking wedding.
However, the Season 12 finale delivered a brief, three-minute ceremony that left many fans feeling cheated. Marina Squerciati, who plays Burgess, expressed her own disappointment, saying:
"Yeah. I mean, I too have been waiting for this moment. I walked myself down the aisle and I didn't do vows [in real life] because I can't, that's just letting everybody know how I feel about something."
The actress continued:
"Not my vibe. But I just wish there was a little more of a party. But that's not the PD vibe."
Many fans of Chicago P.D. echoed this sentiment, knowing that the relationship has been an ongoing story for years and was perhaps deserving of a celebration that was a little more substantial.

Chicago P.D. showrunner explains the brief wedding ceremony of Burgess and Ruzek

The decision to allocate minimal screen time to Burzek's wedding not only ignores character growth but also the emotional connection of fans with this couple in Chicago P.D.. Showrunner Gwen Sigan commented that they wanted to balance Burzek's wedding with Voight's story.
Sigan said:
"In so many ways, this is really a Voight episode, and so to also want to marry it with this wedding was tricky, and we wanted the right tone."
The showrunner continued:
"We wanted to juxtapose the best we could this really emotional ending in Chapman and Voight and this cost, and then also have this happiness and the promise of more to come..."
While integrating multiple narratives is a common challenge in ensemble dramas, the short wedding scene simply couldn't do justice to the complicated relationship between Burgess and Ruzek. In short, a more extended and heartfelt portrayal in the Chicago P.D. Season 12 finale would have provided a more satisfying payoff for long-time fans.
