Aimee Lou Wood reflects on her comments on SNL’s The White Lotus sketch, says ‘I don’t regret saying it’

Aimee Lou Wood gave a breakthrough performance in The White Lotus Season 3 this year. However, when the show was parodied in a Saturday Night Live sketch, the skit focused more on her looks and accent than her acting ability.

Lou Wood then decided to call out the sketch openly and labeled it as ‘cheap’ and ‘unfunny’ in April 2025. Now months later, the actress has reflected on the incident and said that she stands by her comments.

In an interview with BBC News, Aimee Lou Wood stated that she does not regret making the statement, as she wanted to break a pattern, which is something she has been doing ever since she was bullied as a young girl:

“I don't regret saying it because it was breaking a pattern, which is what I would usually do — what I did when I was younger and got bullied. I have a choice here to go in and be embarrassed about it and just say, ‘I didn't like that. It was mean.’”

Following the conclusion of The White Lotus Season 3 in April 2025, Saturday Night Live presented a sketch where Sarah Sherman portrayed Aimee Lou Wood’s character, Chelsea, with false buck teeth. The actress reacted strongly to it and called it mean. The incident caused waves in the entertainment industry, and Lou Wood found support from fans.

During the interview, the actress acknowledged that her statement caused chaos, but highlighted that it was important for her to call the parody out. She also revealed how it gets awkward for her to meet with new directors after The White Lotus, as the incident is always at the back of her mind:

“No matter what chaos came from it, I'm still happy for me and my personal journey that I said something. I've gone into meetings with directors that I've admired and burst into tears and not been able to say a word, and I think that kind of urge is always to correct, to say ‘I'm so sorry that I just did something messy’ and actually you didn't do anything wrong.”

Aimee Lou Wood took to social media on April 13, 2025, and expressed her disappointment over the portrayal of her The White Lotus character on Saturday Night Live. She wrote that while she also enjoys SNL skits, her parody had been done in bad taste:

“Yes, take the piss for sure — that’s what the show is about —but there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way?”

SNL’s team then apologized to her, and actress Sarah Sherman also extended an apology by sending flowers and telling her that she never meant to hurt her feelings.
