FX's Alien: Earth is taking the Alien lore to a new level. Having debuted on Hulu on August 12, 2025, it has everyone talking. The biggest surprise so far is that the lead, Wendy (Sydney Chandler), can actually speak to the Xenomorphs! This creature with acid blood and two jaws has been giving us the chills for years, but now Wendy can talk to them. This is a first for the franchise.

In Alien: Earth Episode 4, Wendy not only faces off against the extraterrestrial predators but also communicates with them. It is not a conversation in a language we can understand, but an imitation of their clicks and tones.

By accurately echoing the alien sounds, she soothes a chestburster that has just been captured. Instead of fleeing or fighting, Wendy peacefully interacts with the creature. This is a seismic change in the Alien universe's lore.

Alien: Earth changes the lore, led by Wendy

FX’s Alien: Earth twists the franchise's lore by presenting Wendy, a character who shares a symbiotic bond with a Xenomorph. This sets her apart from past leads. Born Marcy Hermit in the year 2109, she is a Prodigy Corporation human-Xenomorph hybrid. This is central to her and the Alien universe.

After a battle with a terminal illness at the age of 11, Wendy's consciousness was transferred into a state-of-the-art synthetic body. This transformation granted her a duo of human strength, the power to interact with technology beyond our understanding, and a sense of hearing so refined it allowed her to eavesdrop on the secret conversations of Xenomorphs; something an ordinary person could never hope to achieve.

Alien: Earth creator, Noah Hawley, clarified to Decider that the events are not predestined or chosen by beings from another planet:

“Nothing is accidental to a kid, right? You know, everything feels meaningful. There’s a moment in the fourth hour where she’s like, ‘They chose me.’ Right? Which is not true. Right? They didn’t choose her. She just can hear them because of whatever hardware or software issue that she has.”

This makes Wendy not only a transformative figure but also a scientific anomaly with scary connotations. Unlike Ripley 8’s telepathic bond in the movie Alien: Resurrection, her ability to mimic is on a more fundamental level.

Wendy can communicate at the same frequency level as the Xenomorphs, which makes the latter go from unbeatable predators into companions. All thanks to an unbelievably skilled young girl.

What happens next on Alien: Earth?

Trailers have already hinted at a twist.

A glimpse reveals Wendy and Joe (her sibling) watching as a creature from the Xenomorph species battles Prodigy soldiers, as if fighting alongside them. The first human who can communicate with Xenomorphs.

The question remains whether Wendy's special ability is a blessing or a curse. Can she manage to keep her power in check, or might it turn into something much more dangerous? Could she become the most powerful player in the game, or will her bond with the aliens be used against her?

The latest show has undoubtedly brought a twist to the franchise with the fact that humans are now more than just creatures to be hunted.
