The character of the father was played by David Tennant, who becomes the main suspect as the hidden secrets slowly come to light. Harlan Coben's early work, The Five, showcases his ability to transform everyday situations into intriguing criminal investigations. It tells of four friends whose lives are altered as police find DNA that indicates a friend's missing brother, lost for years, might still be alive. This creepy premise for a story connects with that of Lazarus, where facing ghosts of the past leads to a truth that must finally be known. Both novels exhibit characters wracked with unresolved pain and frantic attempts to come to grips with horrifying incidents.

The suspense in The Five builds out of psychological complexity as opposed to straightforward suspense. It uses clues, friendship, and memory to convey a fundamentally human story. Lazarus exemplifies this pattern by blending personal tragedy with mystery, as well as establishing emotional reality, which elevates the criminal genre to a contemplative, heartbreaking story.

4. Broadchurch (2013)

Broadchurch focuses on detectives, Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller, in uncovering the murder of a young boy in a small and quiet seaside town. This is a mystery to be solved gradually by the detectives. The plot highlights how suspicion continues to ruin a close society where painful secrets are kept hidden. This eight-part murder drama attracts 10 million viewers each week.

In Broadchurch, everything is transformed because of a particular past secret. A man is concealing some crime. He hurts and confuses people around him. This is similar to the story of Lazarus, in which a father keeps horrible truths from his son, who gradually discovers them. Both stories illustrate pain and betrayal. The difference lies in the fact that both made the audience experience the emotion of loss, yet were determined to follow the twists of the mystery. They not only use crime as a plot device, but also as a reflection of the weaknesses of people and their necessity to be redeemed.

3. The Outsider (2020)

This ambiguity becomes supernatural when a dark creature known as The Outsider exploits sadness and horror by playing on the town. Human sorrow & fear drive the plot of the series. The plot also includes aspects of paranormal & criminal activities. The Outsider depicts the group's preparation to confront an unfamiliar murderer.

The place is connected to a missing child case from twenty years ago. When Matilda discovers the secrets, she begins to doubt herself and her reality.

In both cases, the people to whom the secrets are revealed focus on what they discover, which challenges their ideas about themselves and others. Similar to how Lazarus takes emotional agony and blurs the distinction between the truth and delusion.

1. Sharp Objects (2018)

Sharp Objects is a novel adaptation of a book bearing the same title by Gillian Flynn, who states that Camille Preaker, a reporter, moves to her native land to report on the murder of two young women. In the process of investigation, she faces her troubled past and a bad relationship with her mother. The TV drama depicted family pain through a slow-paced tale and intense emotions. This helped create a quiet and eerie feeling.

Similar to Harlan Coben's Lazarus, it brings psychological horror and mystery of buried secrets that cause people to look inside to ruin them. Sharp Objects does not immerse one in the emotional tension of monsters but of the spiritual cruelty of people and the indelible traces of abuse. The two tales reveal how sorrow distorts the psyche and how love and guilt may become ghosts. Isolation, self-suffering, and shocking revelations in Sharp Objects resonate with the bleak self-analysis and matted obscurity that make Lazarus so scarring and painful.
