And Just Like That, Season 3 is moving on without Bobby Lee in attendance. As Jackie Nee, Lee played Carrie Bradshaw’s (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) friend and podcast co-host on the show. His presence in seasons 1 and 2 received much love from the fans of the Sex and the City spinoff show. But he is not the only actor absent from HBO Max’s And Just Like That Season 3. Sara Ramirez, who played the role of Che Diaz, the non-binary romantic partner of Miranda Hobbes (played by Cynthia Nixon), and Karen Pittman as the Law Professor, Dr. Nya Wallace, also appeared in the series.
While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Lee shared his take on the absence of the fan favorite characters on And Just Like That Season 3. He said,
"Some of the woke elements of the show, they got rid of, and I think I was a part of that. I think Sara didn't come back and some other people. They tried to put minorities in, and, I don't know. I never saw the show."
Bobby Lee is no longer part of And Just Like That Season 3
In And Just Like That, Season 1 and 2, Bobby Lee played the role of Jackie Nee. As Carrie’s friend, he was portrayed as a cheerleader for her, with a charming personality. While Jackie was an important part of the show, at the end of Season 2 Carrie ends up giving up on her podcast career to concentrate on her novel. Hence, his departure from the show is justified. Kind of.
Lee has also appeared in other successful ventures, such as A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas, Animal Practice, What Would Diplo Do? And Reservation Dogs. He is currently promoting his debut graphic novel titled Deadweight.
Lee also shared that when the makers of And Just Like That approached him first, he was surprised, as the role was something different for him. He said,
"Number one, I don't even know why they asked. And I was super scared to do it. Because it wasn't my brand, really. You know what I mean? But I did it. I walked through the fear."
It is interesting to note that in Rachel Bilson’s Broad Ideas podcast, Lee did credit And Just Like That for inspiring him to get sober. He recalled the moment he was drunk in Hawaii when he was called to film in New York City due to a sudden schedule change. He recalled shooting the scene with Sarah Jessica Parker,
"I couldn't even say the f***ing first line. It was a nightmare. I remember saying to myself, 'This is never going to happen again. I had to get sober. This is insane.'.. That could've been a career-ender. It was a huge opportunity. It's insane what my disease does."
Even though he is no longer part of And Just Like That Season 3, Lee has only good things to say about his time on the series. He said,
“Sarah Jessica Parker is the nicest person I’ve ever met. She made me feel so at ease. I like everyone on there. It was fun. I never have bad blood with anybody. You know what I mean? I am nice. I show up on time.”
While it was confirmed that Ramirez will not be returning to the show in February 2024, Pittman also left the show a month later.
