Jack Schlossberg vs. Ryan Murphy heats up as Love Story series faces backlash from JFK’s family

Ryan Murphy’s upcoming FX series, American Love Story has been making news. But not for all good reasons. Love Story, which is based on the relationship between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette- Kennedy, is slated to premiere in February 2026 on FX.

Jack Schlossberg, grandson of former President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, alleged Murphy of ‘making millions off John." Murphy meanwhile shared that he finds the criticism for the show odd, since it is about a relative that he hardly knew.

While appearing on the This is Gavin Newsom podcast, Murphy spoke about the disapproval around Love Story. He said:

“…The thing that I was not prepared for was sort of the Kennedy firestorm, which I thought was very strange. Nobody’s read anything. It’s very sympathetic, by the way. It’s a love story. It’s not a takedown right? …Then you have a member of the family, you know, speaking out, and I took it with a grain of salt…our’s (show) is based on a book that’s very sympathetic to both people…I thought it was an odd choice to be mad about your relative that you really don’t remember.”

Murphy’s comments about Love Story was received with a bigger backlash from Schlossberg, who took to his social media to share his displeasure. He wrote on his Instagram post:

“My earliest memories are of John calling me Jackolatern and 'the nudist,' picking me up from school, his Pontiac convertible. I remember being the ring bearer at his wedding and the day he died. I remember Wyclef singing at his funeral. More memories are passed down from stories —like the time he locked himself out of a car in an intersection and asked the guy screaming at him if he could borrow a golf club to smash the window to get the keys, and then did it. You’re making millions off John, making a public spectacle of it but won’t contribute any of your riches to the causes he championed, or the legacy of public service he represented. Also odd that the actor playing the s**iest man alive is bloated !”

What is Love Story about?

Ryan Murphy’s series titled American Love Story revolves around the relationship between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy as they navigate through the media storm around them and the pressures of being in the public eye. However, their story meets a tragic end after their deaths in a plane crash. While Sarah Pidgeon will portray Bessette, Paul Kelly will be playing JFK Jr. The cast for the show also includes Naomi Watts as Jackie Kennedy, Alessandro Nivola as Calvin Klein, Grace Gummer as Caroline Kennedy and Sydney Lemmon as Lauren Bessette.

The show will part of Ryan Murphy's American Story anthologies and is slated to premiere on FX in February 2026.
