Orson Krennic (played by Ben Mendelsohn) and Mon Mothma (played by Genevieve O'Reilly) stand on opposite ends of the spectrum in Star Wars.

While Mon Mothma is working with the Rebel Alliance to bring down the Empire, Orson Krennic is overseeing the creation of the Empire’s most deadly weapon, the Death Star. In Andor Season 2, episode 6 titled ‘What a Festive Evening’, the two characters finally meet at a party as part of a political fundraiser.

Created by Tony Gilroy, the Star Wars Disney+ series Andor follows the story of Cassian Andor and other rebel operatives working against the Galactic Empire. Mon Mothma is a political figure from the planet Chandrila who uses her family's wealth and political strategies to support the underground resistance movement. Orson Krennic is the director of the Imperial Military Intelligence, known for his calculating and evil ways.

When Mon Mothma and Orson Krennic meet in Andor

In season 2 episode 6 titled ‘What a Festive Evening’, the two powerful characters meet at a party filled with several influential people from the world of politics. Mon and Krennic are examining a piece in Luthen Rael’s (played by Stellan Skarsgård) art gallery. The two characters have known each other previously and had an unpleasant encounter, as is revealed from their interaction.

Mon showed subtle displeasure towards his presence when she said,

‘How pleasant to see you free of the witness stand.’

To which Krennic grins and says,

‘What a festive evening this has become.’

They discuss a piece that once belonged to a group of people who stood against the Empire. Mon showcases empathy towards the people who were killed. But Krennic simply argues that ‘criminals love to lie.’ Their conversation is tension filled as both refuse to back down. A true testament to their respective personalities.

Whether the characters will be seen together in the following episodes remains to be seen, however they play a crucial part in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the sequel to Disney+ series Andor and prequel to the Star War original trilogy. In the movie, Mon is working with the rebels who are on the path to get the plans for the Death Star, which Krennic successfully finished creating.

In Andor, Mon is yet to discover the extent of atrocities in Ghorman, where the Empire is mining the mineral that is to be used for the Death Star. The truth could be the tipping point for Mon before she ditches the senate role and leads the Rebel Alliance.

In Rogue One, we see Krennic in his villainous avatar as he desperately aims to climb up the ranks within the Imperial Empire. While speaking to Games Radar+, Ben Mendelsohn said,

“I think we're dealing with some different bits of him. This is sort of him in his development to what he becomes and I think to that degree, he's a little fruitier. We see an early part in Rogue One of him and Galen Erso as quite young men, sort of young in the empire, lots of hopes, lots of dreams. But, you know, he's getting ready to rock and roll here. It's a joy to be back."

Andor Season 2 is currently streaming on Disney+.
