And Just Like That Season 3 recently had a surprise for fans as Andy Cohen reprised his role as a shoe salesman from Sex and the City. The appearance was brief but brought a rush of nostalgia for fans.
And while the scene became a topic of discussion on the internet, Andy Cohen has revealed that the filming experience was not as smooth as it looked. Instead, he had to give multiple retakes, as he is not used to television acting.
During a recent episode of SiriusXM’s radio show Andy Cohen Live, the host explained how he found it difficult to understand blocking on set and deliver his dialogue, which repeatedly disrupted the shoot of And Just Like That Season 3.
“Shooting these shows for me is very difficult. You have to literally walk four steps, say your line at a particular spot, and then keep going. There's a lot of blocking involved, and I just don't — I'm not good at it.”
Andy Cohen calls his And Just Like That Season 3 cameo a disaster
In And Just Like That Season 3 Episode 9, Carrie visits a Bergdorf store to divert her mind from her fight with Aidan. As she looks around, she is greeted by salesman Daniel, played by Andy Cohen, who previously appeared in Sex and the City Season 6.
Andy had just one dialogue where he had to tell Carrie that he would be there in a minute. However, with the entire blocking and technical stuff on the set, the talk show host could not get it right. When showrunner Michael Patrick King changed the dialogue, he ended up saying it so intensely that he almost stole the limelight from Carrie. Recalling the situation, Andy said:
“When I tell you that I was marching out like, 'Carrie, I am slammed! I'm gonna be with you in a minute!' And Michael Patrick King comes over after we do it twice and he goes, 'Um, this is a really pivotal scene for Carrie.'”
He added:
“He didn't tell me, but now I know that she just had a big fight with Aidan. 'You're stealing focus from Carrie. The episode title should now be called 'Daniel's Busiest Day.' And it's not about 'Daniel's Busiest Day,' keep it on Carrie!'”
Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays Carrie in And Just Like That, and is a close friend of Andy in real life, then helped him get his dialogue right. The host revealed that the experience was a disaster, but at the same time, it was fun:
“It was very specific and I was saying it in the wrong place. I was just a disaster. But it was so funny, the idea that it was 'Daniel's Busy Day.'"
Following his appearance on the show, Andy shared before-and-after pictures with Carrie on Instagram from his Sex and the City and And Just Like That cameos. Interestingly, he played another character in the franchise—in Season 4 of the original show, he appeared in the background at a gay bar.
And Just Like That Season 3 is available to stream on HBO Max.
