Dexter: Resurrection, the latest entry in the Dexter franchise, will begin streaming from July 11, 2025. Canonically, Resurrection takes place after the events of Dexter: New Blood, as Dexter's son, Harrison, shot him at the former's orders. Initially, New Blood was thought to be the conclusion of the series as it was assumed that Dexter died in the finale.

However, now, as the trailer for Resurrection reveals, Dexter has survived the shooting. But his return is not unexplained, as some people may believe, because the opening minutes of the Dexter: Original Sin premiere reveal that Dexter is taken to a hospital where he is revived, thus setting the stage for Dexter: Resurrection.

What do we know about Dexter: Resurrection?

As mentioned before, it is known that Resurrection will open with Dexter in a hospital bed, as he was revived by the doctors in the opening minutes of Original Sin. We also know that he will escape the hospital as soon as David Zayas's Angel Batista brings up the possibility of Dexter being the Bay Harbor Butcher. Then, the series will follow Dexter in New York City.

While the return to an urban setting will feel familiar, it must be noted that Resurrection is still a shake-up for the franchise because the story unfolds in a completely different city. Plus, Dexter is not the only serial killer this time. He will be encountering four other serial killers this time, and all of them are invited under the roof of a New York-based businessman, Leon Prater, played by Peter Dinklage.

Meanwhile, Dexter, who is on the run, tries to connect with his son Harrison Morgan, played by a returning Jack Alcott, who is also in the city. Resurrection will follow Dexter, who:

“Sets out for New York City, determined to find [Harrison] and make things right. But closure won’t come easy. When Miami Metro’s Angel Batista (David Zayas) arrives with questions, Dexter realizes his past is catching up to him fast. As father and son navigate their own darkness in the city that never sleeps, they soon find themselves deeper than they ever imagined – and that the only way out is together.”
