Ballard is one of the most popular crime drama series that will be released on Amazon Prime Video on July 9, 2025. It is a spinoff of Bosch and Bosch Legacy and its narrative revolves around LAPD Detective Renée Ballard, played by Maggie Q.
As per the storyline, Ballard leads a cold case unit with limited staff and resources. Her squad investigates old murder cases while exposing hidden corruption within the police force. The show is based on Michael Connelly's novels. It combines weekly case studies into a larger problem.
Ballard is expected to return for Season 2 following positive reviews and high viewing numbers on Prime Video. Ballard is gathering traction for a second season after a successful premiere and on July 9, 2025, the criminal thriller, a spinoff of Bosch and Bosch: Legacy, was released and it quickly earned a Rotten Tomatoes rating.
According to statistics, it also became the most-watched show on Prime Video. There are hints that Ballard Season 2 is coming, even if Amazon hasn't formally renewed the show.
Courtney Taylor, who plays Samira Parker, recently provided a positive update in an interview. She stated:
"Everybody keeps asking for season 2. We don't want to raise anyone's hopes, but it feels good. Everyone is remaining positive."
Parker, played by Taylor, joins Renée Ballard's cold case squad after working as an LAPD officer. Her part was one of the highlights of the first season, but Taylor admits there is still much more to learn. She would want to see more of Rebecca Field's Colleen Hatteras and John Carroll Lynch's Thomas Laffont on film. Taylor adds that these personalities provide depth and vibrancy to the squad, and that their connections will be explored more in future episodes.
Over the past few years, Courtney Taylor has developed an excellent career. From 2017 to 2019, she starred in the online series Single & Anxious before making an appearance in HBO's Insecure.
In addition to her recurring parts in Abbott Elementary, The Company You Keep, and Netflix's Neon, she made her cinematic debut in The Invitation (2022). She appeared in Out of My Mind, a Disney+ film that debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in 2024.
A writers' room is already working on the second season, according to Maggie Q, star of Ballard and she clarified, though, that until Amazon provides its approval, nothing is guaranteed.
Detective Ballard was arrested at the end of Season 1, setting the stage for a dramatic second season. With positive hype, stellar performances, and positive reviews, Ballard seems to be in a strong position for renewal.
Ballard Season 2 may be available to stream on Prime Video by between the middle to the end of 2026 if production starts as scheduled in late 2025.
