Long before fans fell for Gavin Casalegno as Jeremiah Fisher in The Summer I Turned Pretty, he appeared in The Vampire Diaries. Not as a vampire, but as a young, human version of one. He pops up in Season 7, Episode 7, where a flashback reveals a tender, painful moment from Damon Salvatore’s youth.

In the episode, Stefan asks Damon if he remembers the "fun-filled Thanksgiving" they had in 1851. Damon tries to remember and mentions that it was the year when his father took him out to the farm and made him behead his pet turkey.

The flashback begins, featuring their father thanking the Lord for giving him a beautiful wife and "Two fine boys". While everyone seems happy, there's pain in young Damon's eyes. The reason?

Damon’s father slaughtered his pet turkey, Sami, for Thanksgiving dinner, and then told him to eat it. Heartbroken, the boy pleaded with his father not to make him eat Sami, but his mother offered no comfort either.

In the end, Damon was forced to eat the meal while painfully aware it had once been his beloved Sami. Later, Damon is also accused of stealing money from his father's bureau.

After Damon admits his mistake, his father decides to teach him a harsh lesson, pressing the lit end of his cigar into Damon’s hand. The flashback also gives a close-up of The Summer I Turned Pretty star, who delivers a flawless performance as young Damon Salvatore.

Gavin Casalegno's role in The Vampire Diaries happened years before he took on the role of Jeremiah Fisher. So, the actor once talked about being Team Damon and even mentioned that the older Salvatore brother is quite similar to Conrad Fisher. The actor said in an interview:

"One of the previous projects I did was The Vampire Diaries, and I was Young Damon, so I’m basically legally bound to Team Damon."

Casalegno continued:

"I was definitely Team Damon, I just liked that, I know it’s super similar to Conrad."

Interestingly, fans often split into Team Jellyfish or Team Bonrad, and the debates don’t stop there. Many even draw parallels to The Vampire Diaries love triangle, saying Team Conrad aligns with Team Damon, so Team Jeremiah must side with Team Stefan.
