In Episode 10 of Beyond the Bar K-drama, Kang Hyo-min is shocked to learn that the accused and the victim from a new murder case are related to her. Not only this, but she also thinks of herself as a bystander who didn't raise her voice when a schoolmate needed her help.

The episode, titled "Bystander," starts with a shocking moment when Kim Yeong-mi strikes Choi So-yun with a rock before fleeing in panic. Distraught, she drives recklessly and ends up fatally hitting So-yun, who had stumbled into the road.

Later, Detective Han calls Hyo-min and tells her that Yeong-mi has claimed to be her client and that she won't speak a word in the absence of her lawyer. Hyo-min says that she doesn't remember anyone with this name but still goes to meet Yeong-mi.

While Kang Hyo-min has a new case to work on, Jin-woo convinces Seok-hoon to have a team dinner. The reason? He just wants to spend time with Min-jeong, as she has been ignoring him.

Later, when Hyo-min visits Yeong-mi in episode 10 of Beyond the Bar, she learns her tragic story. Yeong-mi was one of her school's brilliant students along with Hyo-min but was constantly bullied by the chairman's daughter, So-hyun.

She was left with scars and medication and couldn't focus on her career due to the torture. When So-yun’s mother later tries to harm Hyo-min, she gets flashbacks and remembers the time when she saw Yeong-mi getting bullied.

Yeong-mi's real name was Kim So-hyun, but she changed it because it matched her bully's name. Hyo-min also recalls that her mother was also aware of Yeong-mi's situation, but she had to stay silent due to the chairman's influence.

For years, Yeong-mi carried that trauma and finally ended up hurting herself with a rock. In the court, Yeong-mi argues that every bystander is equal to the bullies, as no one helped her in the past, which ultimately ruined her life.

Since Kang Hyo-min agreed that she was also a bystander, she decided to prevent Yeong-mi from getting a life sentence. She receives help from her mother, who still has So-hyun's mobile phone with proof that they bullied Yeong-mi and even burned her face with a cigarette.

As the tenth episode of Beyond the Bar continues, Hyo-min carefully separates the charges, framing the rock attack as assault and the road incident as reckless driving instead of deliberate murder.

Hyo-min's defense strategy painted Yeong-mi as a victim of bullying instead of a monster who killed a woman. Her actions were shaped by the trauma and years of torture Yeong-mi experienced all alone.

When the judge asks Yeong-mi for her final statement, she breaks down and says she would accept any punishment that the judge thinks is best for her. During the verdict, the court sentenced her to two years in prison, far lighter than expected.

This way, Yeong-mi will be able to start a new journey after serving her time in prison. At the end of Beyond the Bar Episode 10, Seok-hoon praises Hyo-min for her work as the two sit quietly at Yullim's rooftop.
